Best golf for the money

Based on the discussion on the "Does the Golf Course Matter thread":

2 nominations

1)  Lawsonia Links:  $1300 Single season membership...Assume you play 40 rounds, that's $32.50/round for one of the most fun tracks you'll ever play...

2) Wild Horse Golf Club: $448.38 single membership-at 40 rounds that's $11 and change/round!!!!!

Can anyone top that for Quality/$?

I can't top it but I can mention Rustic Canyon - $37 Mon-Thu -  45 minutes from Beverly Hills.

$1680/ year gets you all the range balls you stand to hit, all the walking golf you want to play after 2 pm any day (the rest of the time you pay $15 for the cart).

Tanglewood Park, Winston-Salem, NC.  1974 PGA Championship host, almost always well-maintained.  RTJ design.

As of 2005, it was $1100 for an annual membership and I don't think it's changed much since.  For non-members, $38 during the week and peak weekend rate is $48 with a cart.  Folks also used to be able to get a walking twilight rate of $17.  Best value for the money I've ever seen.

Arrowtown in NZ.
I saw it for the first time this week and there are some wild, fun holes through the valleys and the rocks.

Junior member is $50 NZ and full is about $550.
The front nine at Arrowtown and the back nine at North Berwick may be the most fun you can have anywhere.

Jud,

You really can't beat Lawsonia in this contest. I played up there last fall with my wife and it was $50 for both of us, with a cart (but we didn't take it  ;D ;)  )

Another nice deal is Pine Meadow north of Chicago, Flynn routing and all, for $49 twilight...but you get to bring a/your junior along for free.

Dean, Wild Horse closes Dec. 1st and re-opens in March.

Lawsonia has a longer winter, would be my guess.

Pacific Grove and Pinon Hills belongs in this category, as does World Woods Pine Barrens.

Just to illustrate how immersed people can be in their own microcosm. Pine Meadow at $49 is not a bargain or a value. Hell, When I use to pay $35 it wasn't one either. And that was for prime time during the week.

In the Pinehurst area some new guys just bought Whispering Woods.  It's an Ellis Maples track.  He designed Grandfather G&CC among others and was DR's protege and surrogate son.  I haven't played it in 2 or 3 years but it is a pretty good layout.  Not sure what shape it is in now, but I imagine it will be adequate.  Anyway, it's public and costs $25 for 18 and $15 for 9.  I like inexpensive public courses as long as the greens are in reasonable shape.  There was another public course here that was in keeping with the Scottish tradition of parsimony but the new owners jacked the prices considerably.  So WW will be the place we jump out on when we have a last minute whim, the weather is perfect and some artful fabrication can be conjured up for the office.  I mean when the frigid weather finally goes and the warm winds are blowing with the dogwoods blooming it can be more than a little difficult to be toiling away in an office in Pinehurst.  Well, I'm sure that's the case where you are as well, but you know what I mean.

Connecticut National - Mark Mungeam redesign - $29 for greens fees, cart, lunch if over 55 and $39 under....best value in New England that I know of...
