Great websites you've discovered here on GCA
« on: February 15, 2010, 05:17:10 PM »
Passion

pas·sion  (pāsh'ən)
n.
A powerful emotion, such as love, joy, hatred, or anger.

Ardent love.

The object of such love or desire.

Boundless enthusiasm: His skills as a player don't quite match his passion for the game.

The object of such enthusiasm: Golf is her passion.

If you've paid any attention to the posts and the posters of golfclubatlas over a period of time you've undoubtedly come across a website or two along the way that stands out among the many out there as one of your favorites.  It's cool how so many of the folks who post here have their own sites, or blogs, where often you'll find their passions for both golf and/or golf architecture on display a little more in depth than with the typically succinct nature of a post (sans Gib Papazian ;)) or series of posts on gca.com.

I wanted to make a thread about the stand out sites, really one in particular for me, that I have come across that really fits the bill in the definition above for the word passion.  'Enthusiasm' is used twice above in this definition and when I think of enthusiasm I don't think negative at all, do you?

Rob Rigg's site is as good as it gets imo.  He has passion covered in spades.  And his site is the good passion type.  Uplifting.  It isn't dismissive of others - no snob appeal.  If you're really about the good, why bother talking about the bad?  The Walking Golfer is Passionate with a capital P.  He's also put a lot of work into it you'll see as you click around in there.

A great site and though we've never met personally I'm very comfortable in saying that RR is a great guy.  Check it out if you haven't already:

http://www.thewalkinggolfer.com/

even a GREAT logo!

I hope some of you will also share a favorite or two of yours; there's plenty of others for sure.

P.S. No back room deals with Rob here.  Strictly a fan! :)

For me, Rob Rigg's site has been motivational and his class has done nothing but enhance that motivation...at least for me.

For useful information, you can't overlook Chris Buie's http://sandhillsinsider.com/golf.html

In all honesty, I have no idea why in the world Golfweek, Golf Digest, or Golf Magazine haven't bought his site and hired him one as their full time NC expert.  If I ran those magazines, I would have done that yesterday.  And no, I haven't met Chris...his site is just that useful!

Wow - Eric - Thanks for the kind words - much appreciated!

Mac and Ryan - thanks for the support as well!

I have inks from TWG's homepage and Friends of the Society page to other guys in the treehouse - here are a few of my favs:

- Jim Colton's Golf Blog 100 site is really cool - his current Ballyneal hole by hole is fun to follow - http://www.golfblog100.com/

- Mike Nuzzo's site is really enjoyable as well - the Wolf Point pics and info is great - http://www.mnuzzo.com/main.html

- Josh Smith just launched his new site - obviously his paintings are amazing and it is fun browsing through them - http://www.joshsmithart.com/

- Tom Dunne's "Out and Back" - http://out-and-back.net/ - has a lot of well written and thoughtful commentary that treehouse members will appreciate (if they aren't reading it already)

Eric,

An outstanding website that I found through Golf Club Atlas is

www.golfarchitecturepictures.com

I just love looking at the multiple angles shown for each course.

Yes, Michael, it is.  As goofy as that sounds...it is true.  I could go into a long story as to why it is, but I'll spare you and simply accept the jeers.   :'(

Mac,

I promise our round at HT wont take 5 hours if you promise to not utter so much as one line from that movie ;)
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Sorry about that Mac, I had forgotten that he had moved his content over to a new domain.  Try www.300minuteman.com

I've enjoyed the work at www.pacduneslooper.blogspot.com.  A combination of life in the trenches and an etiquette lesson at the same time.

For JC,
Marty: Yeah, but this time we're seniors.
Rizzo: And we're gonna rule the school!

For Eric,
300minuteman.com doesn't exist, not neither.

Hi guys,

New to the board here, but wanted to mention the course flyovers on youtube from Golf Frontier.  If there are any you want to see that haven't been done yet,  let me know, I can turn new ones around pretty quickly.

www.itinerantgolf.com
www.top100golf.blogspot.com

Both are excellent; l have literally been checking them everyday for years looking for an update.

I also must admit I have been checking Mac's www.mrpgolf.com lately/daily.

Mac you need to make it so that we know when you play a new course; I just constantly go to your rankings and try to spot something I haven't seen before.
