What hole is this?
« on: February 12, 2010, 03:24:06 PM »
Most of us in the lower 48 aren't playing golf today and at the rate we're going, maybe never again in Ohio  :D.  To pass the time, I've been looking at some old golf photos from past trips and came across a pretty cool hole that had slipped my mind until today.

What caught my eye was how well the hole drapes the land.  The tee shot keeps you thinking with the 2 trees on the left and if I remember correctly, the fairway is a punchbowl of sorts.  I also remember that the two tiered green was one of the slickest on the course and being above the hole is a definite no-no.

I know that a few of you guys from Minnesota have played this hole and like the course.

So, who knows what hole is this?

BTW - that's yours truly in the photo and it was taken in 2008.

Sort of looks like Trinitas Golf Course, Valley Springs, CA...but I'm pretty sure its not it given you seem to be an east coast guy.

Kalen,

You would be correct about the hole not being in California.

Gary,

The 2 trees on the left are roughly 250 yards up the hill.

There's been a decent amount of page views here, but I figured not many people would know the hole because the course isn't a major destination.  However, the course gets the highest accolades in its area and is within the top 40 on both top 100 lists that you can play.

Jonathan:

You don't appear to be harvesting many answers. The architect of this has done a very good course in Illinois on a very undistinguished piece of land -- with perhaps some of the same smells.

Phil,

I do know of his course in Illinois.  However, I have not played it.  The architect is probably better known for his restoration work than his original work.  I also know that some of his past and future restorations are at some outstanding clubs....and a few prolific posters on this site are members of those clubs.

If I were to foster a guess I'd say the guy who designed this hole has also designed in Paris...
