Tim Nugent:

I mentioned Mackenzie and Behr experimenting with a "no rough" design concept and idea not because of these plans because that was a concept they mentioned themselves.

Augusta looks a bit different with the reversed nines. Todays 16th (no.7) is almost unrecognisable. I believe the bunker in the middle of the 11th fairway (no.2) was removed before the courses opening because Bobby Jones father or someone related to him hit into it before the courses opening.

Ed,

This is just a terrifc idea for a thread...thanks!   ;D

I hope it has a long life and then gets archived somewhere in a prominent place on this site.

In fact, I'd love to see Ran make it "sticky" for a bit so folks see it and add as they can.

 :o  Thank you for a wonderful thread.  I have only been on the website for a few months and this is a wonderful way for me to get caught up on a number of past threads on architecture.  Great stuff ;D

Ed,
Let me see if this will work...they may not be clear and may need to be larger but these are just some scraps from "Bread and Butter" courses and a Longshadow rendering...just good for those that like to look at this stuff......

One of my favorites and an early CBM course NLE in Chicago!

The second one is a companion to Tom's version for Skokie.

Tilly's first - Shawnee in 1911:

In late 1912 Tilly redesigned Shawnee, rerouting several holes and lengthening the course by nearly 500 yards:

These can both be found on the newly rebuilt Tillinghast Association website that we hope to have up and running shortly. It will contain many more drawings, sketches, photos and numerous surprises! I'll let all know when it is available...

The original course at Seaview (today's Bay Course) circa 1914;

A William Flynn drawing of his nine-hole addition to Seaview, circa late 1920's  (most exists today as part of the Pines Course)

A mid 1920's map of Cobb's Creek detailing changes that were made at that time;

Merion for the 1916 US Amateur, drawn by William Flynn I believe;

Wow, what a bunch of interesting maps and routing plans!  It would be great if there were a way to save this thread and some other vital stuff in an accessible but separate area of the website.

I think the most interesting thing I saw is the plan of North Berwick that shows a double green for #6 and #12!  I had never heard of that before.   The current 12th green is much closer to the ocean and well separated from the 6th green.

Ed, thanks for all the work putting this together and coordinating others' submissions.

How cool is that double green for #1 and #17 at North Berwick?

Or, many of the other features on that map, including the 6/12 double green?

I think we should push for a restoration!  ;)  ;D

Mike, I knew about 1 and 17, that could still be done today, but 6 and 12 are well separated these days.  First time I've ever seen that mentioned!
