Contrasting 36 hole day

I was talking with a friend of mine who inquired whether I had played Ballyneal or not.  I informed him that I played it the year it opened.  I played Sanctuary in the morning and Ballyneal that afternoon.  It is hard to imagine a 36 hole day being more contrasting than Jim Engh's work on the extreme Sanctuary site versus Doak's efforts at Ballyneal.  It made me curious, what is the most contrasting 36 hole day you've ever had?

Champions Retreat - Aiken Golf Club
World Woods:  Rolling Oaks - Pine Barrens

In Sydney one day I played NSWGC in the morning and Woolooware, a council track ('muni' for the non Aussies) in the afternoon.

Forget just style and quality-wise, a massive contrast in every way, shape and form.

Still loved the round at Woolooware though!

Good to hear from you again.

I must say this post makes me quite sad...I've only played 36 holes in one day twice.

The first time was St. Ives in the morning and St. Ives in the afternoon.

The second time was Cascata in the morning and Cascata in the afternoon.

So, I have had no contrasting 36 hole days.  Ugh!   :-\

I've done the Kingsley/Belvedere duo...good one!

Last week played Pinehurst #2/Tobacco Road within 24 hours.

They don't get much different than that.

St. Andrews Dukes course and Carnoustie...wow, culture shock...

Carts, no caddies, parkland (almost Myrtle Beach style) golf and then Carnoustie!

Apache at Desert Mountain and Apache Stronghold.  The funny part was no one I talked to at Desert Mountain had heard of Apache Stronghold.
Also both courses at Moonah Links, the courses are night and day from each other.

Bart mentioning MB reminded me of a cold day in Dec 1998 when I shot 98 in the morning @ Moorland, then shot 78 in the afternoon @Heathland.  All around contrast there that day.

Scotland:
Carnoustie in the Am - The Castle Course in the PM.... biggest contrast ever!

Kiawah Island, SC:
Cougar Point - The Ocean Course... extra narrow and surrounded by trees v. super wide battle with the wind

Pinehurst, NC:
Southern Pines - Dormie Club... classic v. modern

NY:
Quaker Ridge - Split Rock... ultra private golden age design v. extra crowded pubic course (solid layout though!)

I once shot 96 at Deal.........60 for ther FRONT 9 including my first 10 in decades, this was followed by my first 11 and 12!!

On the much harder back 9 I came home in level par 36.

Obviously on any links the morning can play massively different to the afternoon, it's not unusual to hit a 3/4 wedge then a 5 iron on the same hole during a day.

As for 2 course variation I'd go for Knole Park with deer and a massive country house to play around followed by an afternoon at Rye with the breeze and massive dunes to play over/through.

Apache and Apache Stronghold in the same day?  Wow, that's quite a trip.  Did you have a helicopter?  I would think that Outlaw and Renegade at Desert Mountain would qualify, but making it from the north end of Scottsdale to Globe in the same day is awesome. . .

Back in 1999 in the old days before GCA, there was another site where many of us gathered. 

We had the one of the first outings in Pinehurst and many of us played Tobacco Road in the morning and Mid Pines in the afternoon.  \

The total time for two rounds, 8 hours, 5 at TR and 3 at MP.

One from 2009:

Lakewood in Denver, followed by Fossil Trace.

Come to think of it....Fossil Trace and any non-Engh would be quite the contrast...
