FINALLY... my pick! And of course just minutes before I head on home.

First, I want to explain how I am going to conduct this draft. I am aware of the rules are more open wide, but I figured I need a little more guidance.

I am only going to pick holes that I am familiar with. This means either I have played or walked the holes in person OR I have played it on varioud computer/video games OR I have seen it so many times on TV on major tournaments that I feel like I understand the strategies of the hole fairly well.

Of course this eliminates some great holes from places like Pine Valley, Merion, NGLA, etc. but I just don't fee comfortable selecting a hole that I really do not understand.

I am also going to select the holes in order. Which means my first selection will be the #1 hole on my fantasy course. I realize this may limit my selection as many of the holes I want will be gone by the time I have to select #16-#18, but I think this is more fun.

I am going to limit my par to be between 70 and 72 and will stick to the 4 par 3's and 4 par 5's if I can.

So, here I go...

With my #1 pick I will select... #10 at Chambers Bay.

I want my first hole to represent what is to come. I also want a hole that is not too difficult and very accessible, but with some strategic options. I think #10 at Chambers Bay fits the bill perfectly and very very beautifully.

Is Choi going to write that much for every hole?  Can the servers hold that much commentary?

Not to mention he is skirting around the one of the few rules laid out, that the hole you pick keeps it's number on your dream course. So it should be #10 on his layout and not #1 like he wants it to be.  :P

Oh crap,

Now everyones going renegade and making up thier own rules..its complete anarchy!   ;D

P.S.  I've always loved the look of that 10th hole at CB...I gotta get up there and play it.  ;)

I don't read it that way at all, Patrick.  I think he is saying his first selection, which Jim will slot into spot #10 on CCC (Country Club of Choi) on the master entry.  Verbose, yes; renegade, no.

P.S.

I was thinking it would be fun to pick some over/unders for the number of holes selected from a given course.

For example CPC, I'm thinking about 12-13?
Pine Valley, ditto
Torrey Pines, maybe 1?   ;D

I glossed over that part.  There's always one in every crowd.  Hopefully Jim will place it properly and be done with this hooey.

I suspect it will be #1 in Choi's world and #10 by the rules of this draft as Jim has laid out.  Everyone is free to create imaginary rules for themselves as long as Jim keeps the real presentation of the courses under control.

I am going to always play my course in reverse once I finish my layout.  #17 green from #1 tee, #16 green from #18 tee, and so on.

a brief public service announcement

When making your pick, do it in this format

Course - Hole - Yardage (approx ok) - Par

I won't be a tool. :) I will stick with the rules of the land, though I still believe we should have picked #1 holes first then #2, and so on.

Once Kalen picked my first pick (which I thought would at least last till the 2nd round), I have modified my approach.

And I promise my posts will be shorter ;)

My next pick has been placed in an envelope and hermetically sealed in a mayonnaise jar, and will be kept on Funk and Wagnall's porch until such time that Jim Colton needs to open it.

We should realize that Matthew lives in Ireland?  It is 4AM there....

We should make sure everyone knows and agrees on the time frames....

As much as I would like this to be faster, the reality is we live all over the world (hell, the folks in Oz are reading this now, tomorrow morning) so it is really going to be hard for this to unfold fast.

If we want this to happen fast then we need to all list our top 500 holes and then send them to Jim and he pushes them all through some linear equation that spits out the results.

Now, back to the fun ;D

Cut Mr. Choi a little slack.  The one time I played Chambers Bay we started on 10 and from what I understand, that's quite common.

Come on, give the kid a break. It is well past his bedtime. When he gets up early tomorrow morning long before you do, he will probably chose a hole from the front nine of his home course.
