probably has something to do with not sitting behind a desk for a living....

what about sitting behind a steering wheel!

or a childhood spent on an asembly line.

Phil,

Any chance that Tillie just thought his last few years in Toledo were longer than they actually were?  Its that way now, but was a more happening place back then.

As I have told you, I went by the house where he died. Not such a good neighborhood now. In fact, when I got out fo the car to take a picture of the house, they young gentlemen on the front porch made some noises about my life expectancy being about six seconds if I didn't get out of there now......they looked like the type that wouldn't want their picture taken and I didn't want to take time to explain.

If they lived longer than average life expectancy back then, it's not that unusual.  A main thing that determines life expectancy is infant mortality.  i.e. the babies who die in birth or in their first year of life.  Infant mortality was many, many times bigger then.  Reducing it is a big reason life expectancy has gone up.

The architects obviously survived their first year.  Anyone who did that could expect to live longer than the average.
