16th green... 17th hole... 18th tee at TPC Sawgrass?  The beginning of "stadium golf?"

Not sure if this makes it "famous" or "infamous" but its definitely "influential!"

The ridge at CPC where the routing came together for holes 6-11.
"And so," (concluded the Oldest Member), "you see that golf can be of
the greatest practical assistance to a man in Life's struggle.”

It could be the place in Malaysia where someone used gutta percha as packing cushion for a shipment to St. Andrews. Or it would be the post office in St. Andrews where that person received the package.

Or the few feathery-making shops in St. Andrews in the 18th century. Probably along the 18th fairway of St. Andrews.

Acushnet properties are bigger than an acre.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

My guess is that the most influential acre in golf sits at the end of Magnolia Lane. Think of the past presidents of the USGA who are members in addition to a virtual who's who of corporate America. This is the place where the big decisions are made right under that big old oak tree out back!                 Jack

Easiest answer of the bunch.  For most of our lives, it's been the club, and the course, that every other club in the world looks to.  American courses want to look like Augusta.  Scottish golfers want to go to Augusta.  About a billion Asians want to watch everything that happens at Augusta.  It's the real, private club of the USGA Executive Committee.
Even more than The Old Course, it will be, must be, the final battleground in the war over golf equipment technology.  It may not be the best course in the world, and it may not be as worthy of imitation as The Old Course, but Augusta is, easily, the Most Important Golf Course in the World.
