A seahorse in convulsions...I have soiled myself
« on: December 11, 2009, 07:26:42 PM »
"The Olazabal Course is a showcase for immoderate shaping, thanks to concave fairways and massive, cauliflower bunkering with flash-white sand. This wild, relentless dogleg par 5 looks like a seahorse in convulsions."

Thank you, Dr. Klein, for ruining a heretofore-fairly-saleable pair of underpants.

Amazing that this course was built by the same guys who built the very cool Wilderness Club.

Is this a good demonstration that an ex-pro designer really can make a huge difference?

Or an evolution of the design team?

I enjoy much of their early work and have heard pretty good things about Wilderness but they are certainly not above building a truly awful hole now and then.   The 18th at the otherwise quality Goose Creek is a perfect example.

Only 100 yards shorter for the pros than the rest of us?   A hole only Matt Ward could love.
Golf history can be quite interesting if you just let your favorite legends go and allow the truth to take you where it will.

Remember - half of the holes designed by any architect are in the bottom 50% of the holes he's designed. (duh)

Nobody is perfect.
