Aerial of the Day #75 - 17 Apr 2002
« on: April 17, 2002, 06:48:30 AM »
Good grief!  I certainly hope changes are a-brewin' for this course in terms of thinning out the claustrophobic trees!

Doesn't the course name translate to something? I thought I once knew it, but am drawing a blank.

Need more clues but pine trees and a reference to "brewing" suggests Colorado to me.

Yes?  No??

You'd think with a name that translates to "High Heavenly Ground", it might be in Colorado, but alas, it is not.

Given the claustrophobic trees, it's appropriate that the first head pro at this club was a straight hitter known as "Little Poison".

GOT IT!  Those were great clues, Scott.

I cannot tell a lie, I know what it is and in what state it lies.

Am I sensing a Schulz clue? If so, am I heading to the upper midwest?

Got it, I think.  I've heard the translation means "high holy place" - close enough, though.  Kind of makes you want to "sing", doesn't it??

The clue I was going to give was that after winning a big tournament here, the winner would be like Gene Kelly and go "Singing in the Rain".

Don't know the course, even with the clues, but as an aside...

I wonder how many newspapers went with my headline
for last Friday's round at the Masters -- where, in the morning,
Vijay Singh shot 65 before the deluge hit.

Mine would have been: "Singhin' in the Rain."

My local paper had a slightly different version: "Singh in the Rain".

"Singh in the Rain" has all the rhythm of Vijay's third to 15 Sunday.

His fifth, too, come to think of it.

You're closer than you know - all 3 of us would have "Singhin' in the rain".  Think "VW Day for VJ" perhaps?

Good clues, Scott. Maybe they can take out a few trees and add some bushes. Some varieties will bud in late spring, if they hurry. Am I on the right track?

I think we threw Stevec16 off.

It just hit me now, but Huckster had a great clue I would be proud of.  That's two days in a row with excellent clues!

This club actually has 27 holes, but this is the "main 18".

More harping on the trees, but if you stray from the fairways here, there are few windows of opportunity to go for the greens.  With all this "harping" about the trees, one might think you were at the Pearly Gates.

Who wrote this? "This we know: the earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life: he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself."

Does anyone know if Rees did any bunker renovation prior to the big show this place held a few ago?  That one par three over water towards the top right just looks like his, as do a few others.

Ok...I just looked it up, and frankly, I'm aghast.

Can anyone explain to me why any architect's work, particularly bunkering has to be so godam!* formulaic???!!!

At first i didn't know what this course was, so I'm looking at it from satellite range, and I see...what's that??.....UNMISTAKABLY a REES JONES BUNKER.

It looks exactly like the ones I've seen in New York, In Myrtle Beach, in California, in PA, and now in the PAC northwest!!!

Does anyone else find this maddening???

Is this a plot to turn the world into squiggly-amoeba shaped bunkers and little circular pots????

Damn...whatever happened to creativity and artistry????

These things suck.  Gary Smith...take that....there's something that flat out sucks...

Rees's  Bunkers suck.

Dan - I'm pretty sure this course has a neighbor who would like to weave the web - all in a neatly "bundled" package.
