BUDA VIII B&B RECOMMENDATIONS
« on: December 08, 2009, 09:52:53 AM »
A link to the main thread outlining Buda details http://golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,41794.0/

All

After conferring with the Buda Plenipotentiary Committee it has been decided that nothing is decided - proper committee work this is!  Instead, I recommend three b&bs in Mumbles.  They are approximately within a mile of each other and vary in price so all should be happy.

I have stayed at http://www.tidesreachguesthouse.com/index.html and can recommend it.  In fact, I booked the top room of the house which will room two folks as the sitting room (a completely separate area on the other side of a stair well) can be converted into a very comfortable bedroom.  If someone would like to share the room you are more than welcome - just give me a shout.  I will only be around for one night and the next night it will be all yours.  Additionally, Tides Reach has proper parking whereas the others do not.  I don't know if this is a potential problem or not, but its good to have parking.

The other two places are:

http://www.patrickswithrooms.com/  A restaurant with allegedly nice rooms above.

http://www.thecoasthouse.co.uk/   A smaller b&b meant to be in a good location further away from Swansea.

If these choices aren't suitable there is always Swansea up the road where the hotels below are located.

http://www.morganshotel.co.uk/
http://www.premierinn.com/en
http://www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/travel/swsdt-swansea-marriott-hotel/

Please note, I will not be booking rooms or paying for rooms.  This is solely the responsibility of each Pest.

I booked two singles at the Coast House, which looks okay and is very attractively priced at 35 quid per night single.  I hope I read that right!

Any suggestions for Porthcawl B&B's?

As of yet, I have no recommendation for Porthcawl.  Because the group is split, I am not sure what to recommend.  The club suggests http://www.seabankhotel.co.uk/
There is also http://www.atlantichotelporthcawl.co.uk/

I will happily stay at any one that can offer me this traditional welsh breakfast.

I have always wanted to try it and will email them to find out and report back.

I liked the looks of that price as well. Unfortunately, Floridians snagged all the bargain singles, so I went with the Tides Reach.

Coast is sold out.  I'm looking at a place on the other side of Pennsard, Llyn.....someplace.  Welsh is a mouthful.  I did book the Seabank in Porthcawl for the 16th and 17th.  And 20th.

The Gower is tight on rooms, we may have to stay in Swansea, although the downtown is pretty rough.  Given the schedule, I don't think we'll be around the hotel a lot.

Why don't you stay at The Tides Reach or Patrick's?

Somebody is more than welcome to share my room - its essentially two rooms and you would be on your own Sunday night.

The link doesn't work for Patricks.  I'm waiting to hear from the place in Llyn......   I thought I had two singles at the Coast House but then they were sold out when I checked back to confirm.....only had a room with one bed.  Joe Buehler and I are buddies but not that close......

I booked the Tides Reach for three nights, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  I wasn't quite sure about Friday night after Porthcawl??...will everyone pack up and drive to Mumbles after dinner or is it best to stick around Porthcawl Friday night?

Also, In going back and forth via email with the proprietor today it looks like there's only one room left for the weekend!

I think you have to do what suits.  I am staying near Porthcawl because we are having dinner at the club probably around 7ish and I don't want to feel rushed to get to the next place - especially if its a b&b - which often times like people to check in at reasonable times.  However, I am not playing Clyne in the AM.

I'm in the Atlantic in Porthcawl for Thursday and Friday and the Tides Reach in Mumbles for Sat. and Sun. See you there.  Mike Whitaker and I will do some Cornwall and Devon either before or after BUDA.

Conrad Gamble and I are now also in Tides Reach.  The "luxury" room, apparently!
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

There weren't any rooms in Mumbles.  We will hire a designated decoy, or else I will make Drinkin' Joe drive.  GoogleMaps has it 12 minutes froom the hotel to Pennard Golf Club.

Do Gmaps map the sheep hotspots?  Maybe Boony should issue Drinkin' Joe and you a pair wellies each.  If you are gonna stop for sheep the urge to shagem' may be irresistable.  You know what they say, southerners will try anythng once except folk dancing.  If you are from the north then incest is included in the except part - tee hee.

A flock of sheep with an indifferent sheep dog can slow one's progress for sure!

Seeing Jason's comment, I sent an inquiry to the Tides Reach.

Thanks for your concern for these vulnerable Yanks!

Sean,

We will be surrounded by Welshmen, and you still pick on a poor Derbyshire lad? Still, they dont call Derby County fans sheep shaggers for nothing...

Ben and I will be staying at The Coast House by the way.
