Kirtland Photo Tour - Back Nine (In Fall Dress) New
« on: November 18, 2009, 03:33:42 PM »
I’m not sure why John Mayhugh hasn’t posted any images from the back nine in his previous thread (http://golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,40405.0/) and I hope I am not stepping on his toes by doing so, but Kirtland in late October is really big on the “Wow!” factor and, consequently, I wanted to share some images with you.

I agree with all the comments made by John in his description of the course.  As for the comments made concerning the “bowling alley” look of the fairways, I suppose that would be true if the course were absolutely flat.  That is not the case at Kirtland where there is plenty of natural movement in the land which includes the river valley that most of the back nine is routed through.  As for the comment comparing it to Firestone, I suppose that would be furthest from anyone’s mind after seeing it in person rather than through a collection of images.

Enjoy!

Dean-Great photos. One of my great pleasures this year was to play Kirtland in June. The back nine is spectacular and the front nine is very solid. "Jim" Mayhugh, who may be John's evil twin, was with me that day.

Thanks Dean.  AWESOME PHOTOS.  Kirtland is on my 2010 agenda.

I might have to add it to mine as well.  What dates did you play so I can pencil it in.  What beauty!

No hard feelings, Dave.   ;D

I've intended to get back to the Kirtland thread, but kept getting distracted for various reasons.  Posting photos along with commentary is more difficult than it may seem, which makes Kyle Henderson's recap of his trip to Scotland all the more impressive.  Anyway, I'll try to get back to work this weekend and get the rest of mine posted.

Clearly, I have to make another trip up to Kirtland in the fall.  The colors are stunning.  Thanks for posting these.

I played there the last week of September, when the leaves were just starting to turn color.

The front nine was a lot of fun, but the back nine is incredible. The turf conditions were spectacular too. Mark Chad is doing one heck of a job there. The golf course played very firm and true.

Cool suspension bridges over the river. I didn't think the elevator to the 18th tee was really needed though.

I'm at a loss for words in describing my thoughts after seeing these photos. Stunning.

Kirtland is a real sleeper, definitely a top 100 candidate

i did NOT play it in the fall...i 'm going to have to try to!
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!
