Rye GC - a new view

Thanks to Paul Turner, I was able to get a reasonable approximation of how the old Rye course fit on the current site. It's interesting how first 6 holes meandered across the coastal road, through what's now a housing estate and a parking lot before getting back to the dune line that now holds #4. #10 and #11 were certainly weaker holes - and even now I don't think they are up to the standard of the rest of the course. The current #11 looks like it plays to the original green. #17 looks to be much improved. The original greensite was smack in the middle of the current 10th fairway - a very flat site.

Thanks.  Amazing how well the old map and modern aerial fit together.

Yes, the 11th is playing to the same green.  Interesting also to see how the 16th used to play more along the dune ridge and the old 18th with its blind drive over the same ridge (with the soup bowl bunker which we obviously can't see).

Also quite remarkable at how quickly the sea has retreated,  allowing the Jubilee 9 to the south, to be built.
