For me it's a tie...
BEST MEALS EATEN AT A GOLF COURSE
T1) She-crab soup, Ocean Course at Kiawah. I played the day after Christmas in steady rain and upper-30's temps. Took about an hour to play the front nine, then a bowl of hot soup in the clubhouse then back out on the course to finish the round. Good soup.
T2) The buffet at Walton Heath at the "turn" between our morning round on the Old and afternoon on the New. Delicious food, plus it was my first-ever taste of locally-brewed English beer.
HONORABLE MENTION
In the junk-food category it would have to be the bacon sandwich, with a cup of hot tea no less, at the halfway house (actually it's after the 10th hole), Walmer & Kingsdown. Slamming down a hotdog at the turn back home is like a eating tofu and bean sprouts by comparison.
BEST FOOD EATEN WHILST PLAYING
Gorganzola, rocket and cranberry on fresh-baked rustic brown bread. Purchased at the Black Douglas Coffee House, Deal and eaten during a round at Royal Cinque Ports. A couple hours of being toted in my golf bag on a warm, sunny day helped it achieve the ideal taste and consistency. Man, I wish I had one right now. Plus some of that Solly's Farms ice cream afterward.
