I heard today that you can now use accumulated United miles on Continental. The good news for traveling golfers is that Continental has flights from Newark, NJ directly to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. United offers no direct flights between the U.S. and Scotland

  NOt so much Off Topic. I go to Scotland every year on points flying out of Atlanta. Next year...Knoxville to Newark to Edinburgh. Thanks for the info.

When's the last time were you able to redeem your frequent flier miles for flying? It has been many many years for me.

With all the blackout dates and lack of available qualifying seats, frequent miles are worth about as much as a driver at par 3 course. I don't even bother factoring in frequent mileage accumulation when I am buying airline tickets.

I do not claim redeeming miles is ever easy, but it certainly has gotten easier over the past 6 to 12 months due to the global economic slowdown.

There ought to be at least decent consideration for actual real miles flown, as opposed to credit card miles etc. jamming up the system

Fly Southwest. If you plan ahead using free tickets is remarkably easy--I redeemed 3 flights this year with no problems.

Going to Glaskow next year on US Air business class.  All it took was a lot of hard work trying to find open dates with less miles needed, and a wife to accumulate all the frequent flyer miles through credit card use.

David being an anti Newark sort of Tiger, I am waiting on the nonstop from Houston to Glascow. It is lesser of two evils between Heathrow and Newark. Who knows what terminal etc at Heathrow to connect at and a one club wind shuts down Newark. I am glad you got it.

I cashed in my miles for a trip over to Ireland this past July with United.  I think I got the ticket sometime in October or maybe November.  I've found as long as you book the flight well in advance you can usually get a seat.  United's policy used to be that their miles never expired.  I think that may have changed.  Does anyone know for sure?

Most airlines have a rule now that you must have some "action" in your mileage account (either in or out) once every 18 months or a portion of you rmiles will go bye-bye.

I have been flying my nieces back and forth to college for several years and taking trips myself on both American and Delta.As long as you are willing to use more than the minimum miles it is not a problem(although my nieces are getting spoiled on the first class).
