The 9th at Kingsley is only hard if...
« on: August 16, 2009, 03:10:11 PM »
your name is not Wyatt Halliday.  All you have to do is hit a 9-iron from the south tees to about 10 feet short of the pin and watch the ball roll in the hole.  Hole-in-one!

Also witnessed by: Brad Fleischer and Ben 'Dell' Sims.

Alright, Colton...now I'm pissed! (at myself for not getting to golf with you guys at the Mines)

Congrats to Wyatt, and I'm anxious to hear how the rest of the match went!

With his current jelly legs, I have him right where I want him.  Probably the only way I can beat him.

You have to love it when the pin's back in that bowl.
Congrats on the 1

Congratulations!

Nothing like a triple eagle on what normally plays as a par five.

Hope you guys are having as much fun as I am imagining.

Congrats, "Ace" Halliday!  Those solid irons you were striking at the Bandit were a precursor!  Don't you just love The Kingsley Club? I hope you guys are staying in the bungalows.

After a mid weekend back wrenching that relegated me to driving the cart for Colton, my day was brightened by seeing my first in person ace.  My boy Wyatt struck the purest 9 iron I've ever seen.  After what seemed like forever, it disappeared from view and four grown men celebrated like little leaguers winning the championship game.  It solidified an otherworldly weekend for us, and I'm happy to report that my flight from Traverse was cancelled tonight....one more day on the links at Kingsley.  Poor me.

Ben,

Well put. Accurate description, although I would've gone with womens college basketball team hitting a half-court buzzer beater.

Wyatt,
Congratulations!!!!  Now you've settled all those arguments about the difficulty of the precipice of the 9th . . .    ;D

Would have been fun to have seen it with you!
Best,
Mike

Careful with posts like this.  You're going to get DeVries thinking he needs to toughen things up.

Congrats, Wyatt.

No big deal...everybody makes a hole-in-one on #9 playing to a front pin from the south tee.  I saw one the first day of the member-member tournament last month.

Have I made one there?  Uhhh, no, but let me explain.  Wait!

Here is a shot of the pin location on Mr ace's shot . Gold tee 9 iron ..... I don't care how many ace's have been made on that hole , to make an ace there is out of this world even more so considering how everyone thinks it's a par 5.

PS
Jim 's vertical leap was quite impressive after that shot not as good as someone else's I know but good.

ok wyatt thats all the love your getting !!!!

Oh...mistake on my part.  The front pin from the west tee is a wedge to a very small pinnable area where everything collects in close.  It's an easy 1 from there.

Wyatt, you rule!

I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Here's a video of Wyatt pulling the ball out of the hole, showing how windy it was at the time.

Thanks guys!

It is a given that luck plays the principle role of the ace. In this case it played the only role. I wish I could say that I hit a shot under the wind that utilized the slope behind the flag, but I didn’t. I merely tried to hit the highest, softest shot possible which landed on the front of the green and rolled in forward. Simply put, there was NO reason for anyone to make one from that tee, with that wind. To quote Yoda: “Pure luck it was”.

As an aside, I have the non-playing Ben Sims to thank for even taking us to that tee. I have a feeling that without our argument over the size and position of the centerline bunker on eight (which kept him nearest the South); we may have ended up on the West tee.

Joe,

We thoroughly enjoyed Mines Friday evening. I’m sorry we weren’t able to hook up this time. Is there any intentional relation between the 11th at Mines and the 9th at Kingsley?

John Kirk,

Since I know you like to keep tabs on this sort of thing, I was -2 on the ninth for four rounds. +27 for the rest of the course.

As for the entire trip, Jim Colton summed it up in one word: Serendipitous
It’s certainly a weekend that will remain etched in memory.
