NGLA fairway striping New
« on: June 01, 2009, 10:54:34 PM »
The BB mowing thread reminded me of an assertion a caddy at Friar's Head made to me last year--that it was NGLA that first started cutting fairways in contrasting halves, striping them with rollers directly behind the blades of the mower.  One, is this true? Two, is there a purpose outside of the aesthetic result of alignment to this method of cutting?

Not sure of the origin, but it was originally used because it is easier for the mowers.  The old gang mowers in particular were able to make those sorts of turns far more easily than trying to stripe a fairway.
