For guys that have played a few Shorts, how does NGLA's compare to others?

Nothing else is close although I got excited by the donut at Mountain Lake.  Actually I guess it's a horseshoe with the front open.  Nasty piece of work.

Especially to a left or right pin - though for some reason the left pin always seemed to play harder for me!

I can't remember summarizing the 7th, but, it's possible.

I'll start a description of the 7th shortly.

If someone has pictures of the 7th, either aerials from Google Earth or elsewhere, or ground photos, I'd appreciate your posting them when I start the thread.

I was at Chicago Golf Club two weeks ago and it's become quite controversial there that the greens are now so fast that approaches and putts to the front of the tenth green often wind up being sucked into the front bunker.  I was asked if this was fair, or if we shouldn't do something different to the green to prevent it.

By luck, I happened to get back to National Golf Links three days later, where I promptly remembered that the front of the sixth green at National [the same Short hole template] has ALWAYS been like that.

So I guess I don't have to do any surgery at Chicago Golf after all.  Which is just as well, because the course is as good right now as I have ever seen it -- the greens are frighteningly fast.

I was at Chicago Golf a week before you and had a wacky fun time. Hit #1 in regulation. Four-putted. On ten, I hit the green but the ball spun back into the front bunker. My bunker shot hit about ten feet onto the green, then took a left hook, back into the bunker. I'll skip the rest. Suffice it to say that CGC was the firmest and fastest course I've ever played in this region. That superintendent knows how to grow grass without much added water, that's for sure.

Just another example, a la Pasatiempo, of a classic course with greens designed for 8-9 stimps maintained at an unplayable 12 speed.   Is this fun or masochism?

I played Chicago Golf Club the Wednesday of Ryder Cup week. My host said that he had been out there that Monday, and was told the greens were stimping at 15. I put a ball down on the putting green, picked out a hole about 30 feet away, and proceeded to putt it 20 feet by! That golf course was as fast and firm as I have ever played (save for Ballyneal and Bandon Dunes), and I had played Shoreacres and Skokie the day before. What a fun way to play golf.

The only short holes I have played are #11 at Camargo, #12 at Shoreacres, and #10 at Chicago Golf Club. Of those three, I like Chicago Golf Club's the best. I really, really liked the green...you can't simply hit a short iron on and have a ho-hum two-putt. If you make a three on that hole you have to hit multiple good shots, or at least one superb shot.

Are there any other short holes with two horseshoes in the green?

The short at NGLA's green looks similarly testing and difficult. I can only imagine how much fun it is to play.
