Photo Tour of Monterey Peninsula CC - Composite Course
« on: March 04, 2009, 12:05:27 AM »
Mr. Huntley asked for a photo tour of the once-a-year composite course of MPCC, so here's 14
of the 18 (by my account, which could be wrong, 5 par 3's, 6 par 5's, par 73, though several
par 5's are on the 'short' side):

#1, par 5, 480 yards:

#2, par 3, 165 yards:

#3, par 4:

#5, par 5, 505 yards:

#6, par 3 175 yards:

#8, par 4 approach, 443 yards:

#9 long par 3 from back tee, 227 yards (little bit of Spyglass in the background):

from a little closer up:

#11 from back tee, 178 yards (w/view of Cypress):

#12 par 5, 598 yards:

#12 from long approach:

#13 par 4 from back tee, 401 yards:

approach from right side (closest view of Cypress):

#14 par 3, 185 yards:

#16 short par 5 from back tee, 492 yards:

approach:

#17, short par 4 approach, 340 yards:

#18, par 5, 514 yards:

approach from left side:

from closer up (atop the 'rock pile' in the background is the
back tee for the par 3 11th, which is across the road from the rest of the hole at left):

Scott, thanks for a glimpse into the future.  Its good to know that my waredrobe will still be in style 16 years down the road!

Seriously, really nice photos.

Thanks for that and say hello to that wonderful lady golfer that you press-ganged into joining us.

Thanks for posting these pics.  MPCC may be #1 on my list of courses/clubs that I didn't fully appreciate until participating on GCA.  That probably has something to do with the other courses on the peninsula -- people seem to talk about Pebble, Cypress and Spyglass more (at least on the East Coast).  But it looks absolutely terrific.

Thanks for the pictures, Scott.

The course looks rather remarkable and certainly beautiful although there are some minor perceptible stylistic differences between holes from each course in the composite.

However, how did you manage to get those photos from the future?  ;)

More photos of the Shore portion of the composite course...  Bob Jenkins and John Mayhugh photos compliment those of mine where I had some gaps.

Shore 9 / Composite 9

Can you see the golf hole in this picture from the tips?  Brilliant scenery for a nice afternoon photo, but a bit intimidating for anyone swinging a golf club

A slightly less intimidating view from a still difficult tee

And an even closer view

This green is pretty bold

Shore 12 / Composite 12 - Beware the hidden crossing water.  It's reachable!

Great photos; This Monterey course has an understated beauty that for me makes it as good as any of the other courses in the area. Although I haven't played it (just drove past, last summer), I wonder: How can it not be top 100 US?

Shore 16 / Composite 16 - Between the three of us, we only got one picture of this hole.  My excuse was freaking out because I almost took Bob's head off with a shanked 5-iron approach.  I'm not sure why John and Bob missed out.
