Pre-KP Warmup for NorCal - Peacock Gap on Sat. 3-28-09
« on: February 28, 2009, 01:06:51 PM »
Gentlemen of NorCal (and SoCal if in the hood),

You are cordially invited to a pre-KP warmup round at Peacock Gap on Saturday March 28th in the early morning.

I'm posting this thread to gauge the interest in this.

Feel free to respond In or Out and on Saturday March 21st I'll pull the trigger for booking the foursomes.

No "maybes" or "think abouts" please.  I will consider those as Out.

With some luck ... maybe even Forrest will be able to join us for this occasion and share some of his thoughts about the course.

Cheers

I would recommend that anyone who hasn't seen Peacock Gap since Forrest's remodel go out of their way to join this group.  You won't see a more interesting and challenging bunch of greens anywhere.  This is a textbook for how to turn a flat and low site into a fun and interesting course.  It's actually a lovely place with surrounding hills and a couple of hills that come into play, but overall the terrain is not much.  The greens make it, with lots of contour and unexpected features.

Assuming you've played Peacock Gap, where have you seen more convoluted and unusual greens?

You didn't say "convoluted and unusual".

Please re-read your original comment, it's quoted above for clarity.

And if you think Peacock Gap deserves a prime-tee time play on a saturday morning, you REALLY need to get out more. The KP will be good for you!

Jed Peters -

I can assure you that NO ONE (well, hardly anyone) "gets out (or has gotten out) more" than Bill McBride! ;)

I played out there right before the Kings Putter last year, followed by Meadow Club and then MPCC and Pasatiempo.  All great greens, but Peacock Gap's were the wildest I thought.  Not the golf courses, there's no comparison except for the design of the greens.  But Peacock Gap is worth a weekend round just for the challenge of the greens.

To me "interesting and challenging" = "convoluted and unusual."

You didn't answer my question.  Have you played Peacock Gap?

Yes.

The reason I get excited about the greens there - to the point of calling them "interesting, challenging, convoluted, unusual" and worth a play - is that I think Forrest turned a really boring course, flat with nothing really going on, into a course that keeps your attention throughout and actually makes you laugh or even giggle from time to time.

If Forrest had gone in with a typical set of greens, I don't think anyone would be interested in playing Peacock Gap.    With the greens he designed, I don't think you could say that.

What do you think about Peacock Gap from that perspective?

I'd love to play Peacock Gap - sounds and looks very interesting to me - I've been wanting to get up there for a long time.

Alas and alack, however on March 28 the Major Giants of the Branham Hills Little League shall be playing the Phillies at 11:30am in San Jose.  Coaches do not miss games.. especially when they are already slated to miss a game on April 18, for a good cause.

Have fun, gents.

Tim,

Early as in probably 8-9am or so.  Depends on what I can get too.

If enough show an interest and come from afar then I'll certainly keep that in mind and try to get a little later in the morning.

Did not forget.  I have a reminder to check in Thursday to see if there's any traction for this besides Tim.

Tim,

Still interested?

Patrick,
Looks like I am going to be in town after all, so please count me in if this happens/there is room. I've been meaning to check out the new Peacock for a while.
cheers,

Forrest, isn't this the place for someone to express their opinion?

I'm a "possible".  I'm missing the KP this year, but I just looked on my calendar and there were no Little League or lacrosse games scheduled for that Saturday.  I need to check to see if that is a mistake or an opportunity.  I played the old Peacock Gap a lot of times...would be fun to play the new course.  I'll update this non-qualifying post asap.

Not this (invitation to play) thread, IMO.  There is a separate thread about the course.

It's like someone sending out an Evite for a dinner party at a restaurant and getting a "no" reply from someone with critical comments about the restaurant.

Ok...

At this point it looks like we have a foursome going.  I will shoot for a tee time prior to 10am if at all possible.

If anyone else is interested in this, I'll need to know by tomorrow noon pacific time.

Otherwise ... too late.
