Adrian - RCP were cutting at 3mm five years ago and the greens were on the edge of disaster. We now cut at 5mm, water less, the fescue is returning and the green speeds improving dramatically. Last Saturday they were around 10 which for late Feb is amazing BUT done in a sustainable manner.

Mark- If you can pop them up another mill and get away with it you will see the fescue return even faster, as long as you can keep the finer grass the speed will still be ok. 6mm poa is pretty horrible though.
A combination of whats good for golf and good for turf.

I've played Nairn on and off for a number of years and found the greens to be excellent. Two clubs that always seem to produce first rate greens in summer, whatever the weather, are York and Fulford.  In the north of Englnad greens will be pretty ugly for the next couple of months as growth begins again, different grass strains growing at different times. They can get remarkably uneven over Easter when many clubs begin their main competitions.
