Interesting note.  Mat Dunmyer and I are located about 4,000 miles apart.  But, we both worked as assistant superintendents at the same golf course in Northern California.  Not at the same time though.  Also, I spent a weekend afternoon helping him repair a fence in his backyard.  Still waiting for repayment.... ;D

I have a cold 6 pack of Newcastle in the fridge whenever you are ready......... ;)

I hope you are doing well and enjoying where you are at- it's been a while since you sent me any pictures!!!

Actually, I'm a little surprised that out of 2000 members only 15 of them would be representatives of the maintenance industry who are interested in GCA or know about this site.

JS, rest assured there are many more supers out there, both registered and lurking...  I myself can think of a couple dozen or so more... but I'm not naming names.  Some are cagy old weedlayers.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Certified Golf Course Superintendent, Master Greenkeeper
Since 2001, GCS at Golf de Joyenval (R.T. Jones Sr., c. 1990)
Chambourcy (Paris), France

I have been a superintendent since 1980, and a  student of GCA since 1990. In 2005, I completed the GCA curriculum at Edinburgh College of Art, as sanctioned by the European Institute of Golf Course Architects.

I'm very lucky that my career has afforded me a great deal of travel around the world, doing construction and maintenance in various far-flung places, France, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, the Philippines, South Arica, North Carolina, Florida,  Maryland, and Connecticut.

Of all those places, I would live in the south of Spain, if I could, not for the golf course architecture, but rather for everything else there.

the big wheel turns by the grace of God.

I have been the superintendent at the Country Club of the Poconos for the past 5 years. I have been a member of GCA for a few years and have posted very few times, mainly because of the amount of negitivity my course recieves on this site (use the search tool and you will see). I am probably lurking on this site at least two to three times per day. I love golf course architecture and golf course maintenance. My favorite posts are ones that include course pictures from all over the world. I love looking at the maintenance of other courses.

Prior to CCP I was the superintendent at Little Mill Country Club in New Jersey. I was an assistant at Harbour Town Golf Links, and then Pine Valley before I became a head superintendent.

I will be at the conference in New Orleans. Lets meet for a cool one in the International lounge on thursday or friday afternoon.  It is usually located out of the way of the hustle and bustle. They provide free cocktails and snacks for all international visitors. It is a great way to meet up with people from other countries. There tends to be quite a few Canadians who meet up here on a daily basis! ;)

Duane,

Love to.  I learnt the lesson in 2001 in Dallas and 2004 in San Diego that one has to be fast when the beer hits the international lounge in the afternoon!  By the time the full day seminars finished and I made my back to the lounge all I got was soda.....

Will try again this year.

I Love to read the post and you never know what you might run across.  In 1997 I graduated from the University of Tennessee and went to work at Cherokee Country Club a 1907 Ross course also located here in Knoxville.  Chris Sykes, the Superintendent at the time, and I were looking into the history of the Club and we both got involved on Golf Club Atlas.  I remember when there are just a few course profiles and now it has grown so much!  It is rare that I post anything as one can see by my profile, but I have been around for a long time.   I just enjoy reading the threads and check them every few days.

By the way Cherokee just completed a major renovation this past summer that was in the planning stages when I was there as an assistant.  Ron Pritchard oversaw the project and they just opened for play a few weeks ago.

2004 to 2007:  Erin Hills Golf Course - worked construction and then maintenance

Summer of 2008: Ballyneal - intern

As of this time I am also planning on being down in N.O. and would love to meet up with any one interested.
