My Fenwick experience (some pics)

After reading what little press there is out there regarding Fenwick (Old Saybrook, CT), I thought I would make the trip today from Westchester (approx 1hr30).  I was having links golf withdrawal and thought this might give me a little fix.  Unfortunately I only had my iphone to  take pics, so they aren't too good.  Plus it's probably not the place you want to be snapping loads of images at anyway.  Although the burough was comepletely dead.

By far the most understated club I've been to.  And for that I instantly fell in love with it.  The starter shack was closed, so greens fees were collected at the burough municipal office across the street.  I was greated by an extremely friendly lady.  She gave me a card explaining the history of the course, scorecard ect.  (Very Scotlandish)  I've never played a course that literally runs through a neighborhood.  It kind of felt like I was playing golf in my backyard, as I did when I was a kid.  Part of this feeling also was likely due to the temporary tee boxes.This brought the 'fun factor' way up.  My favorite hole was the par three second.  A long par three bordering the LI sound and Catherine Hepburn's former home.  The greens are extremely small and interesting.  The par three 6th has a large mound running accross width of the green blocking it's view from the tee.  Very cool.  Unfortunately the wind wasn't blowing so it was playing pretty easy.  I would image it can get some serious gusts though, being so exposed in all directions

Super charming.  I'd thought the northeast was hammered by ice and snow?  Oh well.  Sounds like a good 'lil track!

Jon,
We had a very hit-or-miss event that brought mainly ice to the state. I am as far over in the NW corner of Ct. as you can go and we had rain, while two towns over it was a 1/2 of ice. Sunday was rainy and a high of 59.

Fenwick's really fun, old school golf. Great views, nice walk, excellent little greens. I agree, the second is a 'favorite', although it's not hard to like any hole out there.

Ummm a bit. 

I know, it's the stupid Iphone.  Haven't figured out the camera yet.  It's got a stupid delay on it from when you hit the button and when the shot actually get's taken.

I played this course a few years ago on Tony Pioppi's recommendation.. I had a similar experience
