Golfing a la mode
« on: November 19, 2008, 12:54:27 PM »
We didn't play golf this summer on holiday in France as we were not sure we could compete on equal terms:

This lady golfer is in Beaune, that loveliest of wine towns.

Didn't Natalie Gulbis get her only win in France? :o

What if this 1947 meeting were held in France instead of Pinehurst?

You can sort of see why they called Stanley Thompson "The Toronto Terror."  He looks like a lot more fun than those other stiffs!

Thanks for the lovely photos, Mark.  There must be quite a story there!

Ask not what GolfClubAtlas can do for you; ask what you can do for GolfClubAtlas.

It can mean that but not always.

Actually, "a la mode" means, literally, according to the style, which I'd guess is the sense in which Mark meant it.

Great statue, btw. It only grazes the surface of the golf/pornography possibilities. I for one think there is a vast literature out there on the subject waiting for someone to write. Hello, Dan?

I wonder if she thinks golf is a game or a sport....

Don't you mean a slicer or a hooker?

No, just that Bob Crosby and I are both perhaps a bit too literal.  My dad was a great lover of apple pie "a la mode," so I knew exactly what you had in mind!

Although I still don't see what ice cream has to do with that statue!  ;D

OK. If you can't imagine her with ice cream then imagine her with  chocolate syrup.

My lord...these guys look like Calvin Coolidge's Cabinet.

Sit around all day napping and smoking pipes, periodically stopping to discuss the moral desecration caused by Flappers and Moonshine and curse the League of Nations.   ;D

as to the ala mode, she's not going to get much hip turn with that toed-in back foot.
