I know I do, if you don't...why?

John...You truly have one of the finest minds in golf. But you are no Melvyn Morrow.

Damn right I consider myself one of the finest minds in golf. And one of the finest minds in nearly everything else I do as well.

The bigger question is, does anyone else consider me one of the finest minds?

Let's not get off topic here because we are scared of the facts.  If people like me and you are not the finest minds in the game then who is?  Please don't start naming off a bunch of wanna be dentists stuck on the island of misfit toys trying to get in copy under a deadline.
John,  As a real ife dentist I sometimes feel as though I'm on the island of misfit GCA's! ;)      Jack

Every serious private side golfer knows that dentistry is where it is at.  I love hearing MD's whine about how dentists have the best gig.

;D ;D ;D

yes  absolutely but only relative to all semi-retired caddies from Pine Valley who were treated in their youth by Doc Dyson  !

sorry JES  although you could ask for disqualificaton as you may not have earned your full union card ....or received the lithium carbonate while forecaddieing on #2

#2 is where a line drive screamer from Jack May caught me on my shoulder going about 17 miles per hour...great guy, not much heat...never did meet Doc Dyson.

You all realize, of course, that JK is merely seeing who responds to this message.

"OK, he's full of himself...he thinks he's a great mind...TEPaul, check...JES, check...Kirk, definitely needy and self absorbed"

You oughta come to Philly sometime...you would love it.

Gentlemen (edit: and ladies, I sometimes forget :-[), I am pleased to be able to discuss this game, its courses, and its general interest with minds who put thought and effort into the discussion and who are willing to question even the most enduring and established assumptions.

The most brilliant mind is not worth a whit if its possessor isn't willing to use it. I'm glad to say no one here is afflicted with the trait of not thinking (maybe not thinking things through, but that is another matter)

John Kirk,

Who are my peers?

The peers would consist of GolfClubAtlas and the greater community of authors and critics who discuss golf architecture and the golf business.

Your interest in discussing golf seems very sociological in nature.  It is not obvious that your primary interest is the architecture.

John ,     As a rather middle of the road mind, I had a brainstorm and I apologize for threadjacking but here it is: The 2009 Windy City GCA get together. I envision it in June or July.Rounds at Cantigny, Cog Hill(newly opened Dubsdread)on Sat/Sunday with potential rounds on Friday at Beverly, Olympia Fields, etc hosted by those of us at some of the private clubs . My guess is we have enough guys at the private places to offer some options for out of towners. Some great dinner options as well for a saturday night banquet. Is this something people have interest in?May need to start a new thread on this. Chicago is just a great town in the Summer for this kind of thing.     Jack

Exactly, my primary interests are sociology and poetry.  Few minds of golf fully explore this important aspect of the game yet alone comment on it as it relates.  I could really give a damn where goes the dirt.

How could you not.  You should have seen the look on my wifes face when I asked her if she thought I was.  It's just not that high of a bar.

I'll take it one further:  how could you not after all the conversations you've had over the years with literally thousands of know-nothing golfers about golf?  And lest we forget, these are the serious golfers who think they know enough to even HAVE an opinion!  For every one of them, there are another half dozen to a dozen who are completely clueless and know it...

Guys who think flower boxes around the tee make it look pretty.

Guys who think a course sucks becuase they shoe shine guy takes too long.

Guys who want to increase the slope of their course because that makes the course "harder."

Guys who whine when their half-whiffed, early-released, spin-out, over-the-top 6 iron approach won't hit and hold or suck back -- so they blame the super.

A low bar indeed.

..........you forgot guys who get thier knickers in a twist over "chear lines"........

Oops, forgot the  ;)
