As a courtesy, has anyone extended an invitation to Coach Kiffin?  Please insist that he bring his wife along.

Bogey

I'd guess he won't be around campus this weekend, instead out making things happen on the recruiting trail.  Maybe a trip to Tampa to convince QB Aaron Murray he needs to rethink his commitment to the Dawgs and come play in Neyland next fall.

Mike did you watch his press conference?  Reminds me of almost four years ago.  I was in the golf shop by myself, a cold, wet winter day (March) and watched Bruce Pearl's introduction as coach of the basketball team.  I knew nothing about him, other than his then recent run to the sweet 16 with UMW.  When he spoke and began talking to the media and the others in the room, the claps were like 4 or 5 people it seemed and I was nervous for him, it was just kinda somber at first.  But man by the end of that speech, I swear the hairs on my arms were pointing straight up and I probably had a tear in my eyes.  I called dad immediately and said, we are going to win a lot of games with this guy.

Yesterday I felt exactly the same way after watching Coach Kiffin's press conference.  Maybe because it's my school, my team, but I like our chances of winning a lot of games with this guy, especially if the staff that's rumored to be coming materializes.

See you all in Kiffinville on Saturday.

Eric,

Did you get my message?

Are you not happy about Crompton?  He still has 2 more years...right?

I heard Lane Kiffin darn turned a 1/2 retard into a 3 star when he coached in high school; I'm darn sure you heard bout dat won didn't ya? Gosh darn Crompton's only 1/4 retard so I'm just sure he can turn him into All-SEC at worst.....shiiiiittttttt

In all seriousness I would be excited about Lane Kiffin but by no means is he a sure thing; co-offensive coordinator at USC doesn't mean you will be the next Phil Fulmer....or wait the next Johnny Majors......or I guess you guys will settle for no less than a national title every year, I don't even know if Legend Lane can live up to those standards.

I would have thrown absolutely everything at Butch Davis; he is a sure thing; Lane may turn out to be awesome but there is no way of knowing for sure; he has never done it before.

Now knowing that you are a die hard Vol I am relieved that I am not able to attend; you and my brother sound like you would have been the best of friends, he graduated from UT in 05 and is a lifelong Vol; I went to UGA and grew up a life long Dawg; (My Mom went to UGA and my Dad went to UT; we both picked sides when we were kids and many a fist has flown over UGA and UT football over the years.)

Thank you very much for the invite and I would love to come up to HH another time.  If you are ever in Atlanta and want to play please please call me.  I will take you to Atlanta Country Club, on me(GD #8 in state of GA and former home to the first ever players championship and 30 years of the Atlanta Classic) on me.

Once again thank you very much and I apologize for any trouble.

Eric,

Is everything good to go on Saturday at Holston?

Kenny,

Just watch and see what happens at UT with Lane Kiffin.  Lane is young but he can recruit the best talent in the country and if you have any doubts about him just watch what he does at UT in the next few years.  That picture of Neyland Stadium is awesome and if you have never seen UT's facilities they are some of the best in college athletics.

These studs from high school come for a visit on a recruiting trip and its like where do I sign when they see a 100,000+ fans and training facilties that look like something in the NFL.  Lane has something to prove in the SEC and he is going to take out on Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, the list goes on-and-on.  I am a UT alum and I live in Knoxville this town is buzzing about his arrival and the day he met with media to accept the position within hours he was on a plane to Memphis to see a 6' 5" receiver prospect that was playing in a basketball game.

Just watch and see the staff he puts together and they will land the best recruits in the country.

GO VOLS!

Matt,

Absolutely we're playing Saturday.

Kenny,

Did receive your message, thanks maybe next time.

As far as the other stuff, what I said is I like our chances with coach Kiffin - nothing about a sure thing.

I am happy to see Kiffin's hire has fired you up too!

Go Vols!

All,

I believe we have 17 or 18 players signed up so thank you all for making the effort to come play.  It'll be a blast even if a bit nippy at first.  I'm hoping Ryan will have tucked some fun pins for us.

Let's just plan to pair groups at the club in the morning because some will want to walk, some will ride, etc.  Unless something changes, we'll go out four, four off of #1 and four, three, three off of #10.  Perhaps another member or two will want to join us at the last minute.

The frost delay will most likely push us back a bit, but here are the times:

10:34 #1

10:42 #1

10:42 #10

10:50 #10

10:58 #10

Hope everyone can stick around afterwards as I have reserved some tables at The Crown & Goose downtown to eat, drink and watch the game.

You all be safe on the drive over and we'll see you at the club in the morning.

Thanks,

Eric

Unfortunately I couldn't get away from work at a decent time today, so I won't be driving down until tomorrow morning.

Mike & John, sorry that I couldn't join you for dinner.

You all damn well better take a lot of pictures and post them in a post-round thread.  And while most will want to see the Holston Hills course, I for one want to see some golf swings.

Envious of you all as golf shall not be in my plans this weekend and damn outings like this are always fun,

First let me give a huge thanks to everyone who made the trip to Knoxville knowing that the weather wasn't going to be ideal.  It was so cool to see everyone bright and early with plenty of sunny dispositions to offset the blizzard from hell that parked itself over Holston Hills for a few hours today.  I should've warned you all about weather events haunting my planned golf outings since about the beginning of time.  So sorry about that.

With that being said, we had a great morning hanging around the bean station, sipping Newport grape and listening to Mike Young telling donkey jokes.

There's a lot of really cool things about golfclubatlas.  Seeing old friends and meeting new friends around a planned golf outing that's getting snowed out before the first shoe lace is tied is one of 'em.

Sorry there's no swing pics Huck, but we did not disappoint, here's the crew from Ice Bowl 2008.  Enjoy.

Within minutes of everyone's arrival the sky opened up...

Obviously we all wanted to get out and see the place, but upon arrival it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that golf would not be on the agenda for the day.

That being said, it was good to see old faces and meet some new folks.  Sitting around a table with Mike Young and some of the others telling jokes (certainly ones not approriate for this site) was a most entertaining morning.

Hopefully we will be able to make it back down to Holston Hills someday.  It looked impressive even through the snowflakes.  By the way, we weren't the only fools out there yesterday looking to play.  When I got there, several members were in the grill and pro shop wanting to know when they could go out.  Everyone I met there that was associated with the club was incredibly nice and seemed to be happy to share their course with a bunch of hacks like GCA.

Once again thanks to Eric for setting this up.  Can't wait to get back down there.

Eric,

Thanks for planning the 12/6 GCA golf get together at Holston Hills.  I had a good time sitting around in the grill room eating breakfast with the guys telling jokes and talking while watching the snow fall on the course.  Let's plan to setup a date in May-June 2009.

Happy Holidays!

It was great to meet everyone.    Thanks for setting up Eric.

Now, with the all the GCAers leaving the ice bowl on Saturday afternoon,  my regular Holston group played on Sunday morning with a windchill at about 23 degrees but it warmed up nicely about 1 pm.

Everyone is welcome back at anytime if you travel throught town,  and maybe it'll be done next year, preferably when Eric can only possibly arrange for rain & lightning.

Well it was not a total loss. I did not embarass myself with my golfing abilities or should I say inabilities. I greatly enjoyed Mike Young's comments and I will surely pass them on. This site has some wonderful people.

  Thanks Eric for your efforts.
