What is everybody reading? (Both GCA and non-golf)
« on: November 04, 2008, 09:08:42 PM »
I saw that someone did a thread last year about what we were all reading and there were cool answers, so I thought I'd reprise the thread and update it for 2008...please respond with one golf book and one non-golf book.

For golf:  Driven by Kevin Cook.  A GCAer recommended it to me and it's really eye-opening about all the shenanigans that go on...

Non-golf:  Game of shadows...the book that exposed all the people using performance enhancers.  Wow.  It sure opens your eyes.

I picked up the new Pete Dye book about three weeks ago.  It's wonderful.
I am half way through a biography of Pat Tillman written by his mother.
I read Chuck Liddell's autobiography about a month ago.  Yes, I enjoy UFC/MMA

Shane Wright -

My wife bought the Amazon Kindle the first week it was out. She LOVES it. It is especially good if you are traveling and don't want to lug along a stack of books with you.

Dreams From My Father - Barack Obama

Anyone who still has concerns and serious doubts as to where the man's heart and soul really lie need to give it an open-minded read.

I really hope we can finally come together as a nation, because it's been too long since we've marched together along the same rugged road locked in arms.

Please no political responses to this message.   It's just a book from a guy who wrote earnestly about the particulars of his life long before any of this amazing journey even became remotely possible.

I'll have to pick that one up.  That was the first RWC I really followed.

In the opposite direction, I picked up Boys Will Be Boys by Jeff Pearlman, about the 1990s Dallas Cowboys.  Such a gong show off the field, so good on it.

Just finished up with "The Black Swan" a few weeks ago.... (I think we just witnessed a black swan event tonight..)

Most recently Sway: The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behavior

And on the golf side, I am trying to read "Planet Golf" instead of just looking though the pictures. I'm trying to get more familiar with links courses but it just makes me want to move to GBI. Its really kind of depressing actually.

On a side note, how do people read fiction when you have movies and great tv shows?

Haven't read much golf-related stuff lately, although I did whip through Shackelford's "Grounds for Golf" again recently. I also re-read a Harlan Coben mystery/comedy that touches on golf called "Back Spin." Good light reading that in some way poses the question "Where at Merion would I get rid of a body?"

Non-golf reads include Straw Men by Michael Marshall, The Pillars of Hercules by Paul Theroux, and lately a bunch of Rex Stout stuff (Nero Wolfe mysteries). He was a master.

Ryan - I read two places mainly - on the bus to work, and while walking around. Yes, I am one of those weirdos who walks and reads at the same time. I've only fallen down once. My co-workers gave me the Indian name "Walks with Book."
