Has anyone in the US received this from Amazon USA yet? Mine was supposed to be delivered on 11/10...but it should be on my doorstep when I get home from work today!

Has anyone tracked theirs yet?

They happen even cheaper from Barnes & Noble!

At least they did.

I'm telling you - this is a book that every member of GCA.com must own.   I love mine, and I still haven't even that far into it.

What's really cool is the inclusion of golf courses that don't get much discussion.  Believe it or not, there's quality golf outside the USA and GB/Ireland :)

Just notified by Amazon today that they have located stock for my order.  Expected delivery down-under is mid-January (2009).  It will be a pleasant surprise when they arrive, just a bit late for a possible Christmas present though.  Perhaps Chinese New Year instead.

Thanks to this thread I got in early on Barnes & Noble and got mine for $11 plus $5 shipping. Came in night before last and it is fantastic! I still like the original with it's gazetteer section though.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

I, too, love the original. I'd love to produce a facsimile edition with a postscript rather as Dan Wexler has so expertly done with Hutchinson. I'm sure Hamlyn would play ball, but who in such dire financial times is going to fund such a thing? Any deep pockets out there? Mark

Mark:

You know I've always loved the facsimile idea - but can I write the entry on The Enduring Greatness of Firestone?   :)  :)

Dan, You don't have to. You can write whatever you like - as we haven't found a publisher it's all in the mind. It's you chance to wonder why they put Course A or Course B into the original or that they rebuilt an original entry out of all recognition (Sea Island, the Australian) or that they got something totally wrong (wasn't that the wrong course for The Homestead?). There was Rich Goodale's favourite, which had the 1st tee of Dornoch in someone's garden. Sean pointed out that the Cross of St George was flying at Porthcawl. My favourite was the stream crossing the 15th fairway at Royal Birkdale, which I think was actually a spectator crossing point during the Open. What fun we'd have! Mark.

Mark-

Is there anyway you could note who wrote up each course?

In particular, who wrote the section on The Country Club? I have a good amount of experience with the course and the author did a great job of capturing the essence of it.

Received my copy yesterday, and spent a couple of hours studying many of the courses.  This book is a "must have" for any of the 1500 board members.  One disappointment though...the Olympic Club profile seems more than a few years out of date.  The course is described as it was several years ago...tree lined on every hole.  The course map and picture of the third green are out of date.

Pat,

All the author credits are in the back - almost the last page.

Daniel Wexler did the Country Club essay.

Just received my copy today, though I made the mistake of having it shipped to work.  I think I may walk outside and put it in the car to reduce temptation.  At first glance, it's outstanding.

OK, hands up - who here like me feels damn guilty that we got this for around $12-13.. or LESS in some cases... as someone said earlier, the paper alone is worth way more than that.

Got my copy over the weekend and yes, I feel guilty as hell.  Not sure why.  If I made a mistake an underpaid Amazon I doubt guilt is what they'd feel...

The book does look to be OUTSTANDING for sure.  And lots of familiar names in the credits.  Very cool, well done gents.
