Valhalla - Behind the first tee grandstand

Can someone familiar with the course explain the existence of what appears to be bunkering on the right of the tee box and wrapping around behind it?  Is the first tee extremely close to a practice area, or am I not seeing what I think I'm seeing?  It almost looks like greenside bunkering around the tee...

Thank you.  It was an incredible week and hanging out with both teams Sunday or actually Monday morning till 4am was a perfect way to top it off!

Nick - I was part of the Medinah contingent.   I can only hope that our facility is as well maintained and well prepared as what I saw out at Valhalla on Thursday and Friday.

Im sure it will be.  I met your Super early friday moring when I was getting ready to do a TV interview.  It will be an exciting next few years for you!

Yes, Curtis!  After our Thursday night in lovely Louisville, it is impressive that he was up when he was....I got a good three hours of additional shut-eye.

I have the utmost faith that if he has anything to do with it, Medinah's conditions will not disappoint.
