Aerial of the Day #145 - 15 Jul 2002
« on: July 15, 2002, 11:30:15 AM »
Nothing like a compact routing to keep those property taxes
down.  And my wayward drives will likely find another
fairway.  :-[

Too bad about the dark and slightly blurry section in the top.

Is every course in this region named after Native Americans?

Interesting to note the very modest housing surrounding this
course.  A clue as to part of it's location.

better question, is every course in this state designed by this arch?

4 of the 5 best in the state as rated by GD are his.

This course is very near to previous AOTD.

Hearing about this course make me wanna play here.  Wanna
believe that this course is on only 95 acres!  95!

This town is where one budget airline believes is easier to fly
into a nearby major metropolitan area.  It's very convenient
if you're flying in to see Tom Brady throw in the snow.

Cluld be the fastest and best greens in the entire area.  Sometimes putts here can make you Wanna - Cry.

The best of the Amateurs see this course annually.

Cheers,

Dave

Without further ado, this is Wannamoisett, in East
Providence, RI, by Donald Ross, of course.  Wannamoisett is
only a par 69, but has several long par 4's, and is just under
6700 yards.  It's moderatley difficult to find a quality course
in RI or MA that isn't a Ross course.

Just re-reading the write-up, Ran says Wannamoisett is 104
acres, and poster Willie Dow said it was 95 acres.  It's still
small.

other clues include:

small property = Ross

"has golf never failed..." = refers to the Ross book of the
same name ending with "me".

"modest housing" = refers to the working class city location
of East Providence.

previous AOTD nearby is Metacomet, also by Ross, as are
other top courses in RI.

Melina Kanakaredes is the star of the TV show "Providence",
also used in the Metacomet thread.

budget-conscious Southwest Airlines advertises flyinginto
Providence as a cheaper and easier way of flying to Boston.

"wanna" play and "wanna" believe = "wanna"moissett

Tom Brady is the New England Patriots' QB who led to the
playoff victory over Oakland in the snow last season.

here's the GCA write-up on Wannamoisett:
