To the Treehouse:

Is anyone familiar with the work of Golf Course Architect Warren Henderson and what courses he may have designed, re-designed or re-stored.

Anyone have any info or sources on where to get info.

Cheers,

Dave

Dave,

I know he works with Rick Smith and recently did Arcadia Bluffs on Lake Michigan and Shenendoah at the Turning Stone reservation in update NY. Both have been pretty well received, particularly Arcadia (I've not played them). Others may know more, but that's a start.

All The Best,

Warren's also done a course called Wuskowhan Players Club in Holland, MI. It was the 2nd best new private course about 5 years ago. (www.wuskowhan.com) To my understanding, Rick Smith and Warren Henderson had some problems getting along while working at Arcadia, Smith pulled out and the course's credit was given to Henderson. Henderson now works for Gary Player's design company.

There was a pretty good Rees Jones course near me called Eagle Lodge (circa 82) that was owned by various corporations over time, including Cigna.

In the past year, I learned that Cigna sold out to a group called ACE, who are blowing up the old course and replacing it with a "Gary Player Signature Design" and looking to host a professional tournament.

Egads, I thought, having played Player's TPC at Jasna Polana and a few others....this should be a real travesty.

But, I learned a bit later that Warren Henderson is doing the work, so I'm a bit more optimistic and intruiged based on what I've heard of Arcadia Bluffs.

The course is supposed to open next year, but I'll have to get over there sometime this summer to see how it's coming along.

I'm familiar with Eagle Lodge, being a displaced Philly guy.
Warren Henderson is doing the renovation work on the West Course at Admirals Cove in Jupiter, Fl.

I'll let you know what I think.

Best

Dave,

I've played both Arcadia & Shenendoah (Turning Stone) and thought both we're fantastic. It appears that in both cases a little extra time and effort was put into the green complexes. Swales, shelves, tiers, chipping area's etc made in both cases the best parts of the course.

Highly recomend both.

The bunkering at Arcadia Bluffs was some of the finest I've seen.  Well done, deep, sod faced bunkers with some occasional waste area bunkers mixed in.  Again, Henderson and NOT Rick Smith is credited with the design of Arcadia as Smith pulled off the project fairly early on.  The course should definately be visited especially if you are fortunate enough to gain access to Crystal Downs and the Kingsley Club which are both nearby.
