Are you refering to the lack of variety? The Masters broadcast only carries 4 minutes of commercials per hour... the fewest commercials of any nationally broadcast golf event.

The lack of variety is a bit puzzling to me. One would think that the sponsors would create an extra commercial or two to keep the commercial breaks from becoming so repetitive.

Know all you say well Mike.  The repeated few commercials made it feel like there was much more commercial time than the advertised 4 min/hr.  As you suggest they need to inject some variety into their approach - as it was it was mind-numbing.  JC

The old Cadilac commercials with a slow drive into the AN grounds had a bit of class-I was channel surfing after the tenth go around with the ATT ad with the salesman and the Japanese translation problem

OMG, I estimated the 4 minutes per hour and tivoed it so I could skip them.  It is simply brutal to watch the same add over and over, even if it is only for 4 minutes per hour.

Out of curiosity, who were the sponsors this year?  Watching on the BeeB we didn't get the commercials, but we did have the odd Exxon and some other company pop up on the screen with the scoreboard once in a while.

Bring back the Travelers and Cadillac commercials - they were classy and tireless, IMO. With so few sponsors this year, the repetition of the commercials got a bit boring. Although not as boring as watching the last two ball play in over 5 hours. Windy or not, they sure were slow..... ::)

Sean,
you ARE kidding, right?

I was beginning to think the Beeb commentators were being paid to say: "welcome back to the Masters, sponsored by..."

I have never been so close to phoning or emailing my disgust to the Director General.

Licence Fee OR Advertising Revenue - Auntie Beeb, please decide.

Ah my son, you have learned so little.  I don't listen to the commentators for golf very often.  They are all bad and especially so for The Masters.  My real exception when at home are the early times during The Open - otherwise I play music.  To be honest, I would prefer no intermediary between me and the televised golf.  Just let me watch listening to the noise of the shots, the crowd and the odd f bomb from Tiger.

You guys know that virtually all other televised golf is unwatchable due to about 4 minutes of commercials per every 3 minutes of putting....err golf

Agree - I know they say it is only 4 minutes per hour, but sitting there and watching on Sunday it sure felt like more than 18 minutes of commercials.

Boring and repetitive - It felt like commercials were coming as frequently as any other tournaments.

Tim, it averaged four minutes per hour, but CBS backloaded breaks toward the last two or so hours of the Sunday telecast. There were no ads at all for the first 43 minutes. Later on, a couple of times, there were breaks only a few minutes apart. Second year in a row (at least) CBS has followed that pattern, presumably with the permission of Billy Payne and Joe Ford.
