ODG rinpoches....who was the biggest?
« on: March 19, 2008, 09:46:10 PM »
I just went to a Mantra chanting class in order to be able to speak with the ODG's a little better.  I mean I got this stuff down......you eat some pine cones and do some of the metaphysics.....even spoke to a rinpoche......even going to a clairvoyant that will allow me to shift frequencies.....
Anyway after all of this stuff....and it was a lot to think about....I realized that many consider these ODG's rinpoches.  (big word for a redneck)
So who was the big rinpoche amongst them all.....I'm getting on his frequency next week if everything works as planned.

Mike,

See if you can dial-in Fred Pickering.

Nobody knows about him yet so it should be fascinating, and if you catch him at the right moment, I'm sure he'll be both entertaining and delightful to party with.    ;D

MichelY;

I consider myself a fairly literate man but I guess I don't speak redneck too good. What the f... is a rinpoche?

I even tried to break down the word into the usual little analyzable pieces and I'm still coming up empty. Something tells me there's something sexual or even scatalogicial about it. I'd bet good money that whatever the hell it is Ben Franklin probably did it to some of those Parisian ladies.

Tom P

Rinpoche or Rimpoche (Tibetan: རིན་པོ་ཆེ་; Wylie: rin po che; IPA: [rinˈpotʃe]) is a Tibetan Buddhist religious/theological honorific title. "Rinpoche" literally means "precious one" [1]. The title is generally reserved for tulkus (incarnate lamas) and those recognized by the proper authorities within a lineage as "choje lamas" ("superior dharma masters").
In Tibet and Bhutan, when used as "Guru Rinpoche" it refers to Padmasambhava, who first brought Tibetan Buddhism to the Himalayas. When used as Je Rinpoche, it refers to Je Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug School.
Rinpoche, epithet for a Tulku, that is, one who has intentionally taken rebirth in samsara to benefit sentient beings on the path to enlightenment. Sometimes this title is also given to spiritual teachers, who are not necessarily Tulkus, but are held in very high esteem by their students.
By historic measures the title "Rinpoche" may be considered over-used and indicates little other than a title of respect, especially in cases where the title is self-applied.

Michael Young, did you actually type post #3 all by yourself? That has got to be the most complex post by about "six-steps-and-around-the-corner" from any other post I have EVER seen on GOLFCLUBATLAS.com. You southern boys scare the hair offa me. If you can communicate 1/10th of that stuff to some of your shapers I'm going to be too intimidated to ever go down south again!

Do you think I can learn any of that stuff in a flask?

So rinpoche means "redneck" and its an honorific Buddhist title?

I'm confused.

Jason,
I suppose if you look at the definition  "By historic measures the title "Rinpoche" may be considered over-used and indicates little other than a title of respect, especially in cases where the title is self-applied."
then yes, it could mean redneck..... ;D ;D ;D

"Fred Pickering?!?

Noboby knows about him yet??

Oh, we know about him alright! He very well may've been the guy who actually BUILT Merion East. I don't mean designed it but built it---at least most of the first iteration (pre 1916).

The chronicle on Pickering from both Wilson and others is both poignant and touching. You want to talk about "flask architecture"? Apparently Pickering was the real deal.

I've joked about Tillinghast and "flask architecture" but I admit that's basically a joke. From all accounts from those who worked with him was that Pickering was the real deal.

But it's obviously hard to keep a good man down. He got fired for drunkeness on the job but when Wilson needed a good man again, despite it all, he wanted Pickering. I think that was on Seaview.

One of the reasons that little Merion West course is so cool with so much quirk is apparently at that point Pickering was "knee-walking" to close to "butt-hole" drunk on the job.

Don't you just love it? Golf course architecture in the old days sounds like the best of times in the field!  :)

"རིན་པོ་ཆེ་;"

MikeY:

Do you see the above? Analyze it very carefully? Did you analyze it really carerfully? Then analyze it again.

I think it might be the secret key to nirvana in golf course architecture!

Tom,

He also "built" the hugely regarded Woodlands in Mass, and Pittsburgh Field Club after Seaview.  Woodlands was probably among the best 10 courses in the country prior to 1915.

You might be a Rinpoche or Rimpoche if... you have 29510 posts on GCA.com and have led a group of marginally sentient beings on a path of big world theory semi-enlightenment.   ::) ;D

Instead of rinpoches, maybe you guys would like the word Zeitgeist better? (the spirit of the age)
