Slightly OT - Intimations of Mortality
« on: March 06, 2008, 05:57:38 PM »
Eeek!
They just announced that Sandy (Lyle) will debut on the 'Senior' Tour soon.

Speaking as one who always saw Sandy as being of my era, somewhat close in age to onesself, I have just been VERY rudely awakened as to my impending death.
Jeepers, I've probably only got thirty or forty years left. I better make something of myself.

Anyone got any ideas?

This means that Woosie, Flaydo, Raffers, etc, etc are not far behind... :'(

Wish I was Jordan Wall............

drink less malt whiskey.  Then again, you might not enjoy your prolonged life as much.

I was recently walking the hollowed halls of Sac State (actually outside between building, but hollowed halls reads better) and folks were collecting signatures for some sort of California proposition to lower the cost of gas. I said make it the cost of Scotch whisky and I'd be first in line. It's a hell of a lot more expensive than petrol.

As someone who just recently reached the Senior Tour qualification, I know how you feel Martin. I found what works best is to do the opposite of James advice... drink more whisky. It reminds you some things getter better with age. I'm not saying you or I will, but some things do.

Cheers,
Dan King

Golf courses are beautiful. Many people think mature men have no appreciation for beauty except in immature women. This isn't true, and anyway, we'd rather be playing golf. A golf course is a perfect example of Republican male aesthetics -- no fuzzy little flowers, no stupid ornamental shrubs, no exorbitant demands for alimony, just acre upon acre of lush green grass that somebody else has to mow.

Martin -

Multiple major winners Langer, Seve, Price, Faldo & Norman have all reached the golden number of 50 already, so seeing Sandy Lyle pass that threshold should not be too much of a surprise.

My guess is Lyle is a lot more worried about the state of his golf game than he is about turning 50! ;)

I drink Highland Park and (occasionally) Laphroaig.  I have never touched brandy and will have an occasional G&T with my wife.  Otherwise its beer (Coopers) and wine.

Very rarely is it Johnny Walker (Red) and soda.

I fear my mortality will (eventually) be affected by matters other than whisky and drink.

And I know that turning 50 (in 14 months time) does not provide a Senior Tour opportunity for me (or you).  Perhaps they should require caddies on the senior tour to be 50 or over as well.  Now we both have a chance at that!

PS  Dan King, I wish I had known of your love for whisky when we caught up in Santa Cruz a couple of years ago.  Then again, I might not have got back to Pacific Grove in one piece.
