OK, the DG has changed again, but can we bring back.....
« on: February 06, 2008, 09:01:34 AM »
35 topics per page?   Now, it's been changed (IMO, for the worse) to 20.

EDIT:  Yay, this has been fixed!

35 posts per page within a topic?  Now, it's been changed (again, IMO for the worse) to a mere 15.

EDIT:  Yay, this has been fixed, too!

What's with the new, blurry smileys?

The Member List doesn't have the Top 30 posters (by # of posts) any more.

OK, enough ranting....

There are some interesting ones, too, including the 'Big Brother' feature Who's Online and What Are They Doing (including those 'guests' not logged in!), the Total Time Spent Online, average time of day spent online, the Top 10 posters by # of Topics Started list.

Also, you can now attach a file (up to 4, max size 128 KB) from your desktop to a post you're making.

The search function has changed the look, but I haven't tested if it's improved or not.

Ran, is this the Big Change you alluded to recently?

The picture comes out small, but it works. When you click on it, it gets big.

Like the changes, faster and search appears better.

I would be in favor of returning more threads per page, the way it was...it takes long enough to search around for threads and I don't see the need to create more pages...but then again, I'm sure Ran has a good reason for this change.

The 'old' method of posting pics still works, too.

Is GCA supposed to be a democracy?

Scott

What course is the above picture from?  Do you know what the stakes along the left side are supposed to do?

I guess I have a new rant, the people who like trees also like stakes (for carts?) framing the trees. ???

No, but he asked us for suggestions to improve the site.  I think a few things have gone in the opposite direction, that's all.

Changing color within a quote (above) and movement still works, too.

Corey,

The course above (Sugarloaf Mountain) hadn't/hasn't opened yet, still doing grow-in, so maybe it's for mowing/rough lines?

I can't get Rich's picture to get any bigger - I click on it and it won't change - Sweeney's works though.  I guess that's dependent on the size of the attachment posted?

Right Huck,

If you look just below the pic, it will show how big its resolution is at its max size.  In this case its only 100X75 which is pretty small.  The other pics is 8 something by 5 something I think.

Aha.  Thanks, Kalen.  I'd call this a great improvement for sure - and the fact you can also attach other files is fantastic.  We're just going to need to remember that if you want folks to see a large picture, you still have to do it the old fashioned way.

There's also a very important detail to see the pictures that Mike and Rich have posted...you can't see them if you're not logged in!

It also looks like any screening of registrants (if there ever was any) has been eliminated. Before I logged in there was a REGISTRATION tab next to the LOG IN tab...

On the front DG page listing the most current topics, if you've posted within a thread, there will
be an open manila folder to the left of the board, instead of the closed, gray folders (some
with exclamation points for high # of replies).

The normal way to edit your post was to click on the 'modify' button.  Now you can click on the
little icon at the bottom right of your post that looks like a diagonal piece of paper with a
corner folded up and a horizontal pencil over it and your can modify your post within the
thread as it looks.

If you hit 'preview' before you post something (as you always should!) and someone has posted
in the thread while you were typing, a warning tells you that someone has posted since and to
 review you post.

The Search function is much faster. One note--previously you could select "Search as Phrase," which allowed you to search "Talking Stick" and get that only and not posts that just say "talking" and "stick" in them. Now you need to put quotes around the words, ie "Talking Stick" to get the phrase.

I changed my sex to female.  The M-F ratio in the stats section is embarrassing.  Incalls not accepted -- please no solicitations...

It looks like all topics prior to June 2003 have been lost.

Also you can click on a heading to change the organization - for example, click on "Subject" to see all the threads in alphabetical order, or "Started by" to see all the threads in order of who started them.

And you can click on replies and find all the subjects that were so bad that no one replied to them. Click again and you find that Shivas cheater line thread has the most replies of all threads.

The Member List doesn't have the Top 30 posters (by # of posts) any more.

Never mind this, clicking on the 'Subject', 'Started By', 'Replies', 'Views', and 'Last Post' (mentioned
above) is much more fun and useful.

You can find threads older than this when you sort by 'Started By' or 'Subject'
