The January 11 issue of GolfWorld has a nice article, drawings included, on Alister Mackenzie's plan to build a golf course (Woodside Country Club) near Palo Alto around 1930. The course was to be part of a 400-home housing development (no fairway condos were planned   ), but the project never happened due to the Depression.

I will check to see if the article is available online at GolfWorld.com

Thanks for reminding us of the prior discussion of this "would have been" project. As usual, gca.com was way ahead (1 year!) of the rest of the golf press on this topic.

While the headline for the GolfWorld article ("California Dreamin'") is shown on the golfworld.com website, the article in the magazine does not come up when you click the link. I will try again in a day or two and see if the article is available.

$3,000 prize for the competition is interesting.  It's kind of a shame that the Mackenzie Society (or the USGA) could not help financially with the rebuilding of some his courses.
