I was wanting to get some education from those in the know about the clubhouse in Ran's new proifle on RSG's and Prince's in general. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is a Prince's today but it's not the same as the original, no? If so, the new one I supoose is on the other side of the property? If not, this is THE original in the photo? It seems kind of sad to see it there. It must've been quite nice in it's day. Anybody been in it? Whether Prince's is still there or not, I hope it survives for posterity's sake.

To be honest, I think of a building like this, hard on the sea, a bit of a travesty.  I prefer to see it set back from the sea bit.  Also, if it isn't going to be used, I think it should be torn down because it is a bit of an eye sore.  It may be a protected building - I don't know.  Princes should have built something similar to the abondoned house rather than that monstrosity which claims to be a clubhouse at the moment.  

In any case, I think Princes is a very good course.  If you get the chance, play it.  While you are there, see if the club would entertain the idea of opening a cool restaurant in the old house.

I remember using the old Princes clubhouse, however it was an old building and being hard on the beach no doubt cost a fortune to run.

The new one looks like a Travelodge motel from the outside and a sports centre on the inside.

My recollection is that the old clubhouse can't be torn down for legal reasons. I don't recall what the reasons were. I do know that boarding was nailed up at places to hide the ugliest parts of the crumbling clubhouse so that it wouldn't look quite so bad on TV during the Open next door at RSG several years ago.

I have another question:

Was Prince's rebuilt TWICE, after both WWI and WWII?

I understand your objection to the setting, Sean. I just thought it was neat to see something that harkened to another time. As for the suggestion I should make to the club, I have a feeling I would be walking into a trap you've laid!
