Name that hole
« on: October 30, 2007, 11:24:35 PM »
Okay kids, it's time again for that favorite game on GCA, name that hole (I'm trying to do my best Bob Barker voice as I'm writing this ;)). Today's contestant is a NLE in it's present form. The course is still in existent and the hole is still in the present routing sequence. It's a toughie, so clues will follow.......

David, to be clear, are you saying the hole isn't shaped or designed as we see it and thus the hole design is remodeled and the original NLE, but the course is still there and the hole we see is remodeled and is still even the same numbered hole on a remodeled course?

No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Is the course in Sacramento?

As you can see, it was and is a par 3. The design today is very different. It exists today in the routing just as it did then, so yes, the hole number is the same.

It is not in Sacramento.

I guess this has been even tougher than I anticipated. The next clue. Byron Nelson said that this hole in it's original form was the toughest par 3 he had ever seen.

Perhaps another clue in the approx yardage from where that shot was taken.

I'm guessing that river eventually washed away that entire tee box, hence the need to re-locate it?

It is the original 8th at Colonial.

I have a closer picture of the green in the Maxwell book.

Now Chris, you have to allow the non Maxwell experts out there at least have a chance. ;)

It is the original 8th at Colonial as Chris stated, which was   better than the present. The present is a pretty good hole, but as you can see, this one must've been spectacular.
