Anyone available for Chambers Bay 10/29?
« on: October 23, 2007, 12:19:20 PM »
Hello all!

My anticipated playing partner for 36 holes on Monday at Chambers Bay has had to cancel, and I am curious as to whether anyone here might be interested in joining me...

Particulars: 1st tee time is at 8.48am on Monday 10/29 (this is the first group on the course that day)--2nd tee time is at 1.24pm.  Might be cutting it close for the second 18, but I expect to be flying around.  Right now both these times are still just the twosome I originally booked.

Greens fees for the 1st round are $131 ($115 + tax; would be about half if you're from Pierce County), and if you play both rounds, the 2nd round fee would be only $51 ($45 + tax).

Extended forecast is for partly cloudy conditions and cool (50 degrees or so), but only 10% chance of rain.  This is the NW, however, so that could and probably will change...

Say what you want about the fees, which I do think are significant, but the combined total for 36 off-season is only very slightly more than one 18-hole round is on a weekend before mid-October.

To this frugal Scandinavian, that is worth it to check out what the fuss is all about!

Only caveat--I need a firm commitment by Friday morning, or I have to give up the tee times.

Shoot me an IM or e-mail if you're interested, as I always enjoy the chance to explore a (relatively new) course with a fellow GCA'er!

When I played there last month, the caddy in our group told us the fastest round he knew of so far was 4hrs and 20 mins.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Sean!

Considering that, as for right now, there is no-one else scheduled in that first tee time of the day at 8.48am other than me and (hopefully) someone else who would like to play, do you care to wager that I can finish in less than 4hr 20 minutes?

I'll consider the gauntlet thrown down!

I caddied a round that began at 4:15 and finished at 7:55

= 3 hrs, 40 min.

I've also flew around the course in three hours, on a beautiful sunny, summer afternoon with the course somewhat empty..I did tee off at 5:00 though...

Final bump--

As the likelihood of a decent weather day has more reliably increased (72 hrs out--forecast for mostly cloudy and high in the mid 50's, minimal chance of rain--that's practically a mid-May forecast!), I am getting more excited about this 36 hole day on Monday...

Sure would like to think a GCA'er might be able to join me on the 29th!

If you are able to join me, please leave an IM for me here, or at my e-mail address (golf@herreid.net).

I'll be practicing my chip/punch and runs over the weekend, as there hasn't been too much rain here...
