RTJ appears to have thought that he routed Capilano. Herbert Warren Wind wrote that he did in the New Yorker.

Did he?

All attributions I am familiar with have Capilano as a Thompson course.

RTJ was probably an associate in Thompson's firm at the time.

I think the last sentence sums it up. he was trying to create a "profession" and a "Brand", and he was successful at doing it. Every architect today is doing the same thing in one way or another, and they should thank RTJ for his ability to build it as a business.



As far as building a brand, it is my understanding that Tilly was the original in this respect.
