A lot of what everyone's mentioning.  Especially to learn and question.

Discover courses of GCA value and interest.  Especially with a public emphasis.  Case in point:  Soule Park.  Thanks to David for that one.  I'm heading there before it's too late.

Unfortunatly, also increasingly sorting through posts.  A lot of things posted seem like clutter compared to before.

Perhaps someday, meet in person some of the posters here and get in some play.

When I first showed up, it used to be about learning about golf course architecture and the history of the game.

Since then, its changed to seeing if I can facilitate a round of 18 with Huck, JK, TomPaul, and Pat Mucci. I'll be the group caddy and just sit back and watch the fireworks fly baby!!!  ;)

In all honesty, Jeff, I think a great many of us share one agenda and it's not a particularly noble one....

Every now and then, for just a moment or two, we all want to be the smartest guy in the room. Even in a room full of very smart guys.

My more affirmative agenda is more of an educational/personal development thing but that doesn't always win out over the other one, truth be told.

Brent you nailed it.

Hopefully I’ve learnt a bit on here and that includes I’m not as smart as I though I might be.
Let's make GCA grate again!

But do you have any sharks with laserbeams???

Would you settle for sea bass?  ;D

No agenda here, just want to learn.

Simply to hear about good golf courses that don't show up on mainstream radar. I think the opinions here can be pretty good once you put them through the groupthink filter.

Edit: Forgot to mention that, because of this place, I heard of a fine course in the southern US that I wasn't familiar with. Now I own a place there.  ;)

I also enjoy hearing the backstories about some of golf's storied locations and events.

I do agree that some agendas here seem to involve trying to appear to be smart. That can make it very tough to get through some of the threads.

I've never thought of myself as having some agenda on here but maybe I better rethink that.  ;)

I've always thought I participate on here to both promote and learn about architecture, particularly its history and evolution.

Kalen,

Huck, TEPaul and I played together at Sand Hills and the only thing that flew was good shots and comraderie.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Well then you must be about as blind as I suspect you are if you didn't notice me at Sand Hills trying to sneak up on you a few times with my 2 iron to try to beat some sense into you.

I think Brent nailed it, too. I often wonder why I post stuff here.  That said, for every time I think I am the smartest guy here (let's see, there was that day in summer of '02....) you guys let me know just how little I know about golf architecture.  Most of the time, I don't agree with your opinions on my general lack of command of the subject matter at hand, but I have learned a lot here.

Without wanting to put words in your mouths, I was actually asking what others might think are repeated and pervasive themes of your posts, to the point that we can tell you are advocating something or other, and using this site as the medium.

Not sure what John K is really advocating, other than discussion for discussions sake. I think some would be advocating to restore every course in America to the design the day it opened, others would advocate tearing them all up (granted, at about a 1:100 ratio here.....)

Yeah, and I was sneaking up behind TEP trying to bash him!

 ;D

The truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, sometimes not.  The truth about our rounds at Sand Hills were that they were great fun, no sparks whatsoever... that is except for those coming out of me for getting suckered into a bet I lost with Pat.

In the beginning, when I was George Bahto's towel boy and valet, I read each post for pearls of wisdom, convinced that inclusion and acceptance on the board was an entrée' into the inner sanctum of golf's most respected architectural think tank.

Now, I just write random nonsense to piss off Wayne Morrison. As long as Barny is still sitting in the corner of the Treehouse, I will never be the most eccentric member.

In all reality, the reason I came back to this was I missed it terribly during a trying period of my life; climbing into the Treehouse periodically keeps me sane and in touch with people I care about.

I've a lot of friends here - not just in cyberspace, but guys who I've spent many a day and night with. When I was forced by circumstance to quit writing professionally, I was so full of remorse, anger and shame that I avoided this place; it reminded me of my past and how far removed I was from the things that made me happy.

So, after a while, I began to be convinced I had lost the ability to write in an entertaining and reasonably cogent fashion. Of course, the natural reaction is to stay away because confirming the truth would be worse than simply not knowing.

I'd also quit playing golf for the most part - except for tending to my seat with GD. Thus, I had little to say; my golf library was relegated to a dusty corner and I stopped reading and learning.

The Redhead had grown tired of my morose outlook and told me that if I did not improve my suck-ass attitude, she would kill me in my sleep. Those on this board who are married to a redhead will know that like Dobermans, they are fiercely loyal and protective, but will bite their owner if provoked.

It was strongly suggested to me that I start writing again and it seemed logical to start here.

So, in answer to the question: I've no agenda at all beyond just trying to exercise my atrophied writing muscles in the company of friends.

And the accusation that this website has been diminished by "group think," all I can say is if everyone always agreed, we would not have threads go on for pages and pages.

first it was learning how to work a computer....and how to type....i still remember the thrill of discovering the cap key and shift and enter....kind of like a micro cosmic hellen Keller experience.

Now I have become more and more confident, although I still type with two fingers. My son, home just this past weekend from the CC of Charleston....no, make that the College of Charleston [ ;)], remarked favorably on my typing speed given my handicap.

So I quess from aside of this being my personal Adult Ed site....what draws me here more than anything is that you are all a fine kettle of fish....and it becomes more and more enjoyable to be able to recognize and get to know others from this squirming school of 1500 or so.....although Ra [or is it Ran] seems to dip one out every so often...but he has re stocked with some goodies, that's for sure...IMO......[I still love to see those Caps] ;D

2) Learn about new courses / hidden gems

3) Get the inside scoop on goings on in the industry

4) Opportunity to participate in group outings / social events

Thank you Gib.

My kids always joke about Dad's "golfspace" habit. Perhaps more than anything I come here because the art and craft of GCA draws me. I love the game and I love the fields of play. The treehouse is a great place to unwind after a busy day in the company of known, semi-known, and even not-yet-known friends.

I just want Sneeky Petes to post under their real names and take responsibility for their opinions.  I also like to defend copyright laws so if you two do find a book don't Xerox it and then sell it on ebay.

I am very close to ranting about people who use this site to test out comedy routines.  i am really getting sick of "one liners"...why not keep your cute uniformitive quips to yourself or at the minimum IM's.
