Just saw Kyle Harris' post to the effect that he defeated Don Mahaffey in their singles match yesterday (Sunday) at Longshadow Golf Club.  This means the final result of the match was 14-12 in favor of the North.  

The only good thing about this result (from a Southerner's point of view) is that my blown win over Dick Daley, who won the 18th hole with a double   to halve the match, didn't have an impact on the final result.  

I'm sure there will be many reports about the good time had by all, and the dent put in the wine supply of Madison, Georgia, and the horror of those who dined there Sunday night to discover Morgan County is dry    but I do want to take a moment to thank Mike Young for his generosity in hosting our crew at Longshadow.  

Everything positive you have heard about the golf course was confirmed.   It's an excellent routing that takes full advantage of the rolling terrain and has a very good short par 3 #13 and cape hole #16 along the shore of its large lake.  Brent Hutto gives a very good description in his thread and I agree fully that the par 3s are a special group.  There is not a weak hole of the 18, and a good variety from short par 4s to ballbuster  long par 4s.   The par 5s are strategic and thoughtful second shots are required in every case.

So congrats to those Yankee invaders, be on notice that the South will rise again next year in Dixie Cup 5!

Congratulations to the North team for winning Dixie Cup 4. It was a well fought competition in which the North's Yankees bettered the South's Yankees 14-12.

I've never seen so many transplants in my life!!!

I, too, want to thank Mike Young for hosting our group at Athens CC and Long Shadow. His course at Long Shadow is a testiment to the positive impact this website can have on an architect. He incorporated every feature and visual trick the geeks on this site love so much. Thank you, Mike! You are becoming as nurdy as the rest of us.

MIke W., Mike Y., Bill Mcduff, all you guys were very generous with your time and effort to provide a wonderful venue for GCAers to have a great time.  The only thing I regret is that Billy McSlide and I played our long planned match on the last day - and perhaps due to potent libations the night before and before that, a few nights of short sleeps and all the other excuses that go with this sort of appologia, we had a match of burn-outs, neither of us would write home about.  

Longshadow is a highly enjoyable golf experience.  From what I can gather on the Longshadow web site, it would be a super chance to get into a fine golf club if one lived in the area full or part-time.   It is a bit long to walk, and I am a little disappointed in myself that I rode a cart rather than at least attempted to walk one round.  (am having on-going pain that really needs weeks off golf to have a chance to heal)  Enough fellows did walk to demonstrate the course is walkable, and still enjoyable.  There are enough design elements out there to give you a new look and experience everytime you'd play.  Mike Young did some very creative and thoughtful things that make for a battle of wits and skill challenge that won't go stale anytime soon.  

Do yourself a favor and get to Madison GA to enjoy it.
