Huck -

Since you have a little one, tell your wife you should not fly on the same plane together. That way, you go early and get your round in at Chambers Bay and she arrives later and everything is okay. My wife will not fly with me so I go early and come back late which usually allows for one possibly two extra rounds. I would rather fly together, but I am not complaining. Try it and let me know what she says.

You are forgiven for not grasping all of the ramifications involved in this, you're too young to possibly know.

The question is this, made simpler:  is Chambers Bay great enough - and more importantly, will the weather be decent enough on November 2 - to REALLY piss off one's wife and risk losing one's job to play it?

Think of it that way.  I believe the course is great enough.  What worries me is the weather.

TH

Wait for the weather report?

 ;D

Can't.  To get decent prices on flights, we have to book pretty much NOW.

So what are the chances for total washout on November 2?

I am not sure what IS is.  Can someone define Sexiest Hole.
I remember PB Dye building a feature that looked like a vagina.
Is that sexy?

Dozer tracks.  The fescue will cove up the look of the tracks, but it depends on the how the tracks weather before coverage.  I think you can still twist an ankle in some places at Arcadia Bluffs :D  Truthfully, I have not been back there in years.  I too wonder how the tracks have faired over the years.

GENIUS.
One problem though:  my wife has at least a small case of fear of flying, and therefore hates flying alone.
But this is a very good line of thinking....

Huckster, I will be back out in Oregon next summer and wispy fescue will be filling the dozer treads.  How about we arrange a rendezvous with some NW types?

"Round up the usual suspects!"   8)

Well Bill, you know me and group events.  I always WANT to do them, rarely can.  So that does factor into this... while I think I will get back to Seattle (my wife's best friend lives there so it's always a positive to suggest a trip there), I'm usually far more optomistic than my reality allows.  So might it be worth all of the ramifications to try to do this when I am there for sure?

I'm just really worried about making this type of commitment and then having Bandon in February weather, or worse.

 ;)

TH

Almost guaranteed good weather in August.  I'll post something around April and maybe some of the stalwarts will show up.

How bad can her fear of flying be? My wife hates flying to, but would rather not have both of us go down at once.

August is also prime family vacation time.  So this could work as we could make said vacation hit the NW... or could be totally squelched.

It's worth factoring in anyway - thanks!

This will be put to the test.  I will suggest it.  In past instances fear of flying has trumped will to leave one parent to raise the kids.  But we'll see....

Jordan - thanks for the advice.  We'll see what happens. I'm still leaning toward making this a non-golf trip, but the temptation is growing.

... Its cool looking (sexy...no comment there) and fun to play.

Jordan,

With all that blond adornment (sand) on the shoulders of that hole, I thought for sure it would make you stand up and take notice.

Bogey,

Are you a lefty. The approach to that green from the uphill lie really "draws" a lefty like me in.

Scenic Hills CC in Pensacola, Florida (which was somehow the site of the 1965 U.S. Women's Open) has a hole like this, a 90 degree dogleg left about 420 yards, where the carry over the far house is about 250 yards.

A couple of years ago a non-golfing couple bought the house and swear they had no idea their home was in the line of fire for every young bucko who thought he could make the carry and shorten the hole to PW second (or pull hooker who had no intention of hitting it over there but did  ::) ).  So they sued the club after a few windows were smashed and their kids couldn't play outside.

Now there's a sign by the tee warning against any attempt to drive over the house.  Of course it doesn't deter the accidental pull-hookers at all.

Peter, is that Enniscrone?

David! I felt the same recognition and mentioned it to Jay Blasi when I was at ChaBay how the 10th took me back to Enniscrone's old #16.  Since being rerouted, it is now #1.

It's a powerful and surreal feeling --  seeing something that you've seen before from some other place in the world.

The same thing happened when I was on the #9 tee @ Pacific Dunes for the first time.  I looked over to Dan King and said "This looks like a hole at Lahinch."  I think it's old #7 but could be wrong.

Anyway, when I saw your question it triggered a "Yes! I'm not crazy after all."     At least not in this case. Though I'm sure that statement could create another debate.

Thnaks Slag. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought this. What's funny is that I've never been across the Atlantic. I just remember seeing the photo you posted and when I saw the CB pic, it just triggered the memory of seeing it. Wierd huh?

Dick, speaking of serendipity. David lives in the same small Cali town as my sister.    Somebody dig up Rod Serling. . . He's got a story to write.

Does anybody have any images of Robert Berthet's golf design in Burgundy, France?  The report is that it is designed in the shape of a woman.  I have seen the pictures before but can't seem to find them on the "interweb". (As 30 Rock character Tracy Jordan calls it.)  The course is very. . . anatomical.  Not sure why it didn't get into Doak's book "Anatomy . . ."

Bill,

The one in my photos is a par 5.  You can't really try to carry the houses.  It just doglegs forever left.  It plays 530-550 from the normal men's tees and I think it can stretch to almost 600 from the tips.  It's the kind of joy to play that you start thinking about days before the round.

There is a nice Mae West (bosoms and cleavage) feature on the 11th at Charles River CC.  The 7th at Gulph Mills used to have a small one (more like a Charlize Theron), but Tom Paul made a mess of it.
