A couple of modern ones.

My favorite was always the original at Yale, which has, unfortunately, gone to the Big Golf Course In the Sky.

The best modern principal's nose bunker complex that I've seen is on the short par 4 15th hole at Boston Golf Club.

We have a new design idiom - Principle's Noses with ugly cancerous warts......

Actually, in every photo posted, to my eye, the bunkers are too far apart, and I don't think the single bunker qualifies, does it?

Or am I thinking more of the similar spectacles?

In keeping with the times, I am unveiling my "laser surgery" bunkers, which I hope will last a few hundred years as well.

Just played the wilderness and quarry. Great golf courses!!
Loved the "Prinipals Nose" on the par 3 7th at the wilderness.

To qualify as a nose there have to be two nostrils!

I think the Principal's Nose at #17 Yale is back in place - at least it was my one and only visit there a couple of summers back.

[Edit] I see Yale #17 is the last photo. It's supposed to be a PN but yes, no nostrils. As I recall, there are a couple of good ones at NGLA.

Has anyone ever seen one of Max Behr's "Miss Grundy's Tits" mound hazards? He said they were supposed to both look and play ultra puritanical. I'd like to see one of our expert researchers dredge up an old photo of them because puritanical tits, even Miss Grundy's, seems sort of a contradiction in terms to me.

Positively not, Anthony.

I virtually demand that we stick with "Miss Grundy's Tits" mound hazards for at least the next thirty six hours. But if you somehow produce a photo of said hazard feature I will cut it down to only three and a half hours.

Before we get too deeply into the topic of large breasts (I am very much pro, btw

), can I ask a vocabulary question?

Is the Principal's Nose Bunker at the 16th at TOC supposed to be the archetype? Or do we use the one at Woking? Or what?

I ask because the PN at Chicago looks nothing like what I think of as a PN. It just happens to be where you might put a PN.

It looks to me like a generic centerline bunker.

Now that's a good question. If we use The Old Course (I like to spell out all courses so the new people know to what we refer) then what era of the Nose do we use? The version today is much different than 1908.

What do you think of the two modern versions I posted?

Gil installed a Principle's Nose at Rustic Canyon's 3rd after the flood. It's a very good PN, but it probably is a bit too bold for the more restrained Rustic terrain. It should have also been placed a little closer to the green, making coming in from the right side, a bit more daring. (along with a narrower green)
