Is Chamber's Bay more......

Whistlings Straits......or Arcadia Bluffs???

Does it really matter?  Both stroke my boat......
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

I hope it is better than either of those.  Everybody talks about how the courses in Bandon get too much credit for being on the ocean, but without Lake Michigan, would either Whistling Straits or Arcadia be thought of as outstanding?

How does each compare to Kingsbarns and Bayonne as well.

Anyone played all four and care to give their O of the order?

Of the two I played, I thought Kingsbarns was a whole lot better than Bayonne. Way better.

It will be interesting to hear the opinions of those who have played the above mentioned when they come to Chambers.

Chambers sits at a point in Puget Sound which is called the narrows, or just south of it.  Some might think it looks like a lake or a wide river.  The tide will rise and fall up to fifteen feet in this area.

Does the fact that the view is not expansive, like the great lakes or the Pacific matter to the ambiance?

As an aside, Michael Putnam played 'the tips' last Friday and was two under par.  Does Chambers have to be difficult from the tips to be accepted?  Ryan Moore is scheduled to play Wednesday.  I let you know if I get a score.

Here is a webshots page from a guy with a lot of construction photos:

Scott Weersing - NEWBIE - sent me this link of some media playing the course last week. The first picture is pretty dramatic and gives a feel for some of the topography.

You would think the "media" would at least get the name right.  Chambers Creek????

It has probably been asked a hundred times, but WHAT IS THE TURF TYPE AT CHAMBER'S BAY.  It looks to be a bit lush for "links-type" play?

I believe Arcadia is bentgrass and Whistling Straits is fescue with bent collars & greens.  Not certain though so don' crucify me turf-guys.

Chambers Bay looks awesome.
Those pictures from Jeff's link really show the grand scale of the course.
Very cool.

My understanding is fescue and the grow in needs to be a bit lush. Think back to early Bandon photos. I think the firmness will develop in time.

Turf if fescue. Same blend that you will find at BDGR. Grow in is the reason for the lush look. One of the best reads for turfheads is the   Monthly Update by Superintendent David Wieneke.
