The original Blackwolf Run course at Kohler
« on: April 02, 2007, 01:55:34 PM »
Hope this isn't too far off the mark for promoting courses to play. But it's a pretty unique opportunity.

Blackwolf Run in Kohler, WI, is having an April promotion in which it is opening up the original championship course for play. Blackwolf Run consists of two 18-hole courses -- the River course and the Meadow Valleys course. Both are regarded as among the best in Wisconsin, and were designed by Pete Dye. The place is promoting rounds (it's an overnight stay and play thing) on the course that goes: 1-4 of the River Course, 11-18 of the Meadow Valleys course, 14-18 of the River course, and the dormant (not used for either course), original 10th hole.

This course, played only the first year or so of Blackwolf's opening nearly 20 years ago, is widely viewed as tougher than either of the existing courses. Regular GCA poster Shivas of Chicago has played it, I belive, and views it as a real bi....

Anyway, the destinationkohler website has details. Again, not to unnecessarily promote, but it's an interesting course to play.

Phil, I wouldn't call it a biatch. I would however call it a better golf course than the collection of 18 holes currently available. The variety was unparalled.

There is one small impossibilty of the playing the real original. And that's the tenth hole from the clubhouse's side of the river original teeing ground. The green has benn lower 34' and given contours. The original was a flat top and I mean flat.
