Steve Curry Update
« on: January 26, 2007, 10:02:34 AM »
This is from Steve's CarePage.

9  January 26, 2007 at 09:32 AM EST

Hi everyone
Steve and I went up to see his doctor yesterday for a follow up, and he was happy with the healing of the scar and removed his sutures! we weren't expecting that to happen until next week. That was cool to watch, and to assist! Steve was thrilled, he can now wear a hat, just in time for the realy cold air. We meet with his oncologist on Monday to discuss whats ahead of us, he's getting anxious about his treatments and their effects on him. He's not been feeling great since he came home from the hospital, very tired and no energy. Now he feels as if he's comming down with something, so he's a bit blue, but otherwise doing ok and is snoozing by the fire.

Anthony,

I'm embarrassed to see that this thread has received little in the way of acknowledgement.

It would be helpful if you could post Steve's email address or his IM address so that the concerned members of GCA.com can contact him and wish him well.

Support is an important element in one's recovery, and receiving the good wishes and encouragement from friends, acquiantances and strangers always makes you feel better.

The shortest email can be the biggest day brightener.

Hopefully, Steve will use GCA.com as a distraction and as a form of therapy during the treatment and recovery period.

Hang in there Steve & Sharon.

All the best to you and yours, Steve.  I hope the dark days pass quickly.  As Ed mentioned, the days are getting longer and Spring is not so very far off.  Hang in there.

Thank you for the update, Anthony.

Pat,

We all are pulling for him with either our prayers or our thoughts to make a swift and complete recovery like other friends on the site.

It's often hard to express that we care on such an impersonal medium. That said, Steve I among many others are thinking of you tonight - wishing you a speedy recovery.

Warm regards,

Ian Andrew

Ian Andrew,

IM's are helpful as well.

One of the most gratifying things that can happen to someone who's recovering from surgery and facing a challenge is the support and encouragement derived from others.

When strangers or acquaintances come out of the wordwork to wish you well, it has a significant impact on your well being.

Having been through it, I know how much those little notes conveying your well wishes can mean

Here's the lastest from Steve:

I want to thank everyone so much for your prayers, thoughts and support! Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to get out to my New England Association's monthly meeting and can't thank them enough for the tremendous support. At that meeting though, got news from Dana Farber that my tumor was other than what we had heard, Anaplastic Oligoastrosytoma? This does not change my protocol though and I guess is not uncommon with the hard to diagnosis brain tumors. Tomorrow is a big day, meeting my Nuero-surgeon at my Radiation Oncologist's office to get the go ahead for radiation, then meet with my Radiation Oncologist for a final review of the plan and have a meeting after that with my Chemotherapy Oncologist to go over the start of that. A busy day that I have not been looking forward to but must face. I am now very much looking forward to the last day of this next 6 weeks and God willing having all my facilities and not being any more nutty than I am now. ;)

Well go Patriots! Or Bears or Colts, No, go Sox!

Love, Peace and Thanks,
Steve

It's easy to be funny when life is funny. When life is difficult, and you can deal with the difficulty through humor....you are blessed.

Here's the deal, Steve...we keep prayin'..or whatever conveyance we all choose, and you promise to keep smilin'....deal?

All the best with your oncologists and your upcoming treatments.  Take some inspiration and attitude from Pat.  You can do it!

Finally, I hope all those drugs and radiation and winning attitude make you come to your senses and forget those Sox - GO YANKEES  ;D

Steve,

Sometimes I think attitude is half the battle in these damn wars.

Any guy who can convince a membership to keep a course beautifully brown, firm, and fast is the kind of determined, persistent individual who has what it takes, even when the going gets tough.

We're all in your corner, big guy, and you're our champion.

God bless you and your family,
Mike

Just a quick note to say that Steve has started his 5 day a week radiation program. He had a reassuring conversation with the doc's and feels much better about the whole procedure especially after they adjusted his neck brace on his helmet so he is completely stationary. Previously he was able to move slightly and had some concerns given how precise of an area they are targeting. As of now tiredness seems to be the only problem, and he is not experiencing any discomfort. Steve is looking forward to teaching at Winter School on Friday. Again thanks to everybody for checking in and a great big thanks to the chauffeurs and babysitters.

To the Proprietor of Joe’s Bar & Grille:

My father and I were all set for a trip to Ireland, when his life also got so rudely interrupted. It took a lot of time to heal, a little patience to wait for him to feel one hundred percent and take the game back up, but we eventually made the trip 10 years later "because we could". He even used the whole experience to negotiate for extra strokes from me.

I wish you continued humor, patience and strength.

Oh by the way, when you recover, you need to find a better circle of friends.  ;)

Warmest regards,

Ian Andrew

Steve,

I just saw in a Latvian medical journal that reading books on 9-hole golf courses has healing properties doctors do not yet understand. I'm not sure if it's true, but if I were you, I'd give it a try.

Don't listen to Andrew. You don't need a whole new circle of friends, just half a circle, keep all the people who don't post on GCA.

Anthony

All the best from Scotland. (Just wanted you to know there's people from all over the world pulling for you).

If you can manage to take a self-portait AND remember how to post it, I'd say you're doing very well -- in fact, you've got 90% of the posters here beat, hands down (including me!).

You look well.

All the best

Martin,

The first, paper back WAoG was a Christmas gift from my Parents and the hard cover came a few weeks ago from Norway (Thanks to Brian Phillips with a very encouraging letter written in the front).  Thank you, Thank you.

To all,
I am back to having my wife Sharon often mad at me, a wonderful sign of normalcy. ;)  As well, I walk twice a day and have been very busy.  I will be the lucky recipient of annual MRIs, yippi ;)  Have to always and again say thanks to my Nuero-Surgeon Dr. Allen Kantrowitz and the Berkshire Medical Center without whom and which I wouldn't be posting this Hallmark Note!

Cheers,
Steve

Tony,

To the nines is behind my face right next to Overcoming Life's Disapointments, Harold S. Kushner. :D

Jeff,

Thanks for the thoughts and I don't know if it was the food, the drink or the company, but Tony's Note to me is priceless.  I will scan it and post it later.

Best,
Steve
