Golf Turf book from 1931

A member dropped off, "Golf Turf of High Quality" Eighth Edition  from Stumpp & Walter Co.  1931.

Inside is a bunch of cool stuff including old pictures of:
11th hole Plainfield Golf Club, 1927
18th green, new course, Salisbury Golf Links, Long Island
Picture of a gallery following golfers at Oakmont Golf Club, PN
6th green, Deal Golf Club
9th green and clubhouse at Shackamaxon Country Club, NJ
12th green Fenimore Country Club, White PLains, NY
12th green Inwood Country Club, Inwood, L.I.
18th green at Garden City
16th green Greenville CC in South Carolina
16th green view from across the Delaware river of Shawnee CC
7th green at Lawrence Farms, Mount Kisco, NY

Lots of cool stuff.  They sold seed of course but also falgsticks, mowers, sprinklers, flags and even a "wicker balloon flag" made of wicker--looks like Merion's wicker basket.

If anyone's interested, I'll try and scan some pictures and post them.

I'm sorry--I've scanned the pics but the size is way tooo big.  My 14 year old nephew will hopefully help me get them posted!

There's lot of cool stuff the more I look at it--here's one:

 "George Low Sand Rake"  
For Traps on a Golf Course

Invented by one of the best known golf professionals in the country.  Ridges the sand, prevents the ball being teed up, compels a player to use his niblick instead of rolling his ball with a putter.  Gives the traps a wonderful appearance.  $3 each, $33 per doz.

The ad includes a picture of the rake and a picture of the "furrowed effect" on a bunker.  

Good stuff.  Interesting how the attempt was to prevent pefect bunker lies back then.

The more I look through the catelog the more it looks like Stumpp & Walter seeded lots of courses in New York, New Jersey, Conn. and Long Island.  Also saw a pic of Yale golf course.  I'll hurry and get some pics up--they are obviously black and white but the scan was decent.

Chris,
 the reason more then liley is because your either scanning them in a resolution too big or in TIFF format or both, thus the larger file size.

Just simply go into your scanner's options and change the resolution to about 96 DPI and then save them as JPG files. This will produce some shots of a very good internet quality.
