Ran's Reviews 2007
« on: January 01, 2007, 11:59:12 PM »
It looks like Yeamans Hall is up for 2007.  What others will we see reviewed this year?

I would love to see a Tumble Creek review, and perhaps an Aldarra review as well.

Jordan, is hell freezing over?  Ran, traveling to the Pacific Northwest, to visit a Fazio course?  Do you have a fever!

I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong if he actually does it.  I'll believe it when I see it.

I've told him, he's long overdue for a visit to Blackhawk. It's been on "The Next Fifty" list for too long!

I'm more than well represented on this web site, and yet he still hasn't seen three of the top 5 or 6 courses we've done; I keep wondering if he will ever take his wife and daughter back to Australia.  (He's probably afraid if he does, Southern Pines will not look so good.)

Actually, the courses I'd like to see him rate the most are El Saler and Valderrama and Royal Zoute, so I have another opinion as to how much priority I should give to getting there someday.

Falsterbo would be really interesting, at least from my personal perspective. Would love to hear an outside opinion on some of the greens that was redone a couple of years ago.

Eric - what is your link with Falsterbo? Only the name sticks in my head from something I read a while back. I remember thinking I'd really like to see that course, and it happens to be on a major bird migration route which would appeal to my non-golfing better half ;)

Newport should make the leap from "Next 50" to "2007"

(Then again, it may have been a more historically valuable piece pre-Women's Open)

I thought I had heard that he returned to the Valley Club after the last KP event.  I'd love to see some more/updated pictures of that course.

I would love to see profiles of the following courses:

Cape Kidnappers
Royal New Kent
Kingsbarn
Shadow Creek
Sebonack
Doonbeg

Jordan missed the mark in getting Ran to come to WA. Chambers Bay should be on the list for 2007. Come on Jordan, you are trying to organize an outing there 6 months out, you haven't tried to organize outings to Aldarra or Tumble Creek, how did you miss this one? ;)

2007 would be a good year to put Japan on the map too.

I'd like to see Ran do a profile of Dismal River.  This course has been subject to constant reviews/criticisms from many people.

If memory serves me correctly, which it may not, I believe that I had heard that Tim Kratz, a principal at Dismal River, was asked to join the group to provide insight about the project.  I know he has chimed in from time to time when the topic comes up.

I would also like to see a review of Sebonack.

Ran's reviews are incredible and I look forward to whatever courses he chooses.

I'd like to see Ran devote as much time as possible to his golf course project.  Cabot Links supersedes all other responsibilities.

Outings can be hard at private courses and especially when you aren't a member anywhere...

I just thought if Ran came to WA it would be to see a Doak course.
Trust me, there is nothing wrong with that either.
It was just what I was thinking is all.

I suppose one must be careful who one pokes fun at/about, but what the hey...

Isn't Cabot Links just a Ran signature design hired out to Whitman?  ;D

To make a bit of trouble (who me?) I'd like to see Ran review these courses that he has already played

San Francisco Golf Club
Atlantic Golf CLub
Sebonack
Stone Eagle

I'd like to see a revised review of Eastward Ho with new pictures after he receives a thrashing next spring  ;D

New courses in my area I hope he sees fit to play and review

Winged Foot East
Seawane
Split Rock (yes the muni)
The Knoll
Sleepy Hollow
Essex CC

I've seen the course reviews section and is this a "Ran" only section?

Being a newb i've had the impression that submitting course reviews is open to anyone and then up to Rans discretion if he wants to post it to the website or not.

Can anyone provide clarification on this?

THanks

Kalen,

Welcome to GCA.com. I believe that the Courses by Country/Architect are done by Ran and his fellow Morrissetts. You're encouraged to submit "My Home Course" pieces or "In My Opinion" pieces.

I don't know about "Colorado National," listed on Ran's next 50. Perhaps he means Colorado Golf Club, or is Trump doing a course here that we don't know about... :o ::) ?

Happy New Year.

I think it would be neat for Ran to dedicate a series of reviews to municipal courses.  Bethpage and Torrey are obviously the big ones there, but it would be neat to see how many munis incorporate classic design principles and playing characteristics.

I echo Dr. Childs, but I doubt we'll ever see that SFCC review.

I'd love to see Ran revisit Seminole and The Golf Club

I'd also like to see his review of

French Creek
Stonewall I and II
Barona Creek
The Bridge & Atlantic
Dallas Nat'l
Lakota Canyon
Texas Tech

. . . Seawane
. . .

Someone (hmm! hmm!, yes you the guy with all the hair ;)) needs to get Ran to the 5-Towns for a tour de force of Seawane and Inwood . . . I'll go out on a limb and say they are the nearest two courses geographically on the next 25 list (US) too bad there's nothing else worth playing within 100 square miles ;)
