point judith renovation

Read in today's Providence journal this course is undergoing
extensive renovation. Anyone have any info on renovation or course in general.

Supposed to be a pretty good "classic".  I believe it was Glenna Collett Vare's summertime home course for years.

Anybody know who's doing the work?  Paging Ed Baker and/or Dave Miller.

One of the many fun Ross courses in RI.
I think Silva is doing the restoration.

Point Judith is another example of why we are spoiled up here in the NE. Similar to Metacomet, Oyster Harbors, and pure Ross,false fronts,undulating greens, grassed over rock formations.

Ron Prichard was consulting there when he was working at Charles River, I was under the impression he did the master plan, if Brian Silva is working there now I am surprised.

It was my understanding that Cornish did some work on the course a few years ago, and that Ron Pritchard was brought in as a Ross restoration expert and he has completed the work on the golf course.

He did the front nine about 3-4 years ago and did the back nine more recently.

Ed Mauro was the member in charge of the project.
He is well regarded and well intended and I believe did an outstanding job for the club.

It is possible that more work is being done.

Point Judith had/has some drainage problems, especially on holes # 1,2, 3, 10.

I also believe that tennis courts adjacent to the 18th green presented problems, architectually and politically.

Point Judith is sporty, yet challenging golf course, especially when the wind comes up.

I'll inquire, and see if any additional work is being done and by whom.

Work is definitely being done. Two friends played it this past sat. and said that 3 holes were under repair.

I'm told that the second fairway is being worked on to eliminate the crowned effect which results in balls getting into trouble on the left and right side of the fairway.

That fairway was previously worked on to fix the drainage problem, but in so doing, other difficulties in the play of the hole were created.

The attempt is to now fix the resultant problem.

I'll get back to you on the other holes.

Pat - My details are sketchy, but I'm told its 2-4. My friend told me on one of the holes they were relocating a green. He couldn't recall which one.

They are relocating the 4th green, a new green on a relatively new hole.

The old/new green was rather large considering that under the right conditions a good drive could get very close to the green.

The green is being moved back, closer to the stone fence, made smaller, with a double tier.  It should help the hole.

Point Judith is a real Ross gem.  I'm not sure now who is doing the restoration plan.  I thought Ron Pritchard was consulting there but I'm not really sure.
I'll ask around and see what I can find out.
